Our Culture

It's kind of funny or maybe just strange - as eclectic and diverse as we are, when you ask SnagAJob.com employees (a.k.a., Snaggers) what it's like working here, you more or less get the same answer:

"I've never worked anywhere like this before."

Many Snaggers mention the rare synergy and camaraderie. Others take heart in knowing their hard work is making a positive impact on other people's lives. Some Snaggers just like kicking back in their office munching on free popcorn while wearing their most comfy pair of stonewashed jeans – without worrying about being judged.

Too good to believe? Once upon a time, many of us even thought such a workplace was just a fairytale or pipe dream. Until we joined SnagAJob.com. So follow us as we stroll through a typical week at SnagAJob.com's Richmond, Virginia headquarters and see if we can't convince you what a great and unique place to work this truly is.

Monday at 8:01 a.m.

Martha No one ever has "a case of the Mondays" around here.

Monday mornings are actually a productive and happy time for Snaggers. To prove this theory, we decided to speak with Client Relations Manager Martha Samper bright and early on Monday morning - before she even had a chance to sip her hot cup of coffee. At many workplaces this will at best get you ignored, and at worst force you to change out of your now coffee-stained shirt and into a new clean one. But Martha simply smiled at us.

"The biggest difference between SnagAJob.com and other jobs is our sense of unity," she says. "Here everyone has a say, no matter what position you hold. I always feel as though my opinions and ideas are welcome and important to SnagAJob.com and the management team.

"As a Client Relations Manager, I work closely with the Account Executives to ensure that together we build trusting relationships with our clients and exceed their expectations. While it is important to work as a team, it is also important to understand your role on the team and make sure that you always take responsibility for your actions…If my job is done to the best of my ability and efficiently, employers fill a void on their teams or at their locations, and a job seeker has a better chance of finding the right position for him or her."

Tuesday at noon

Snaggers at lunch Snaggers like each other so much that we even eat lunch together. Seriously.

At many companies, employees use their lunch break to flee the premises – grabbing grub, dropping off dry cleaning or even sitting in their car in complete silence while watching the clock slowly tick by. But at SnagAJob.com, we actually like each other. And trust us, it makes doing our jobs that much easier. Not only do we not run out of the office during the lunch hour and look for any excuse to escape our officemates, but we all regularly sit down together over great (and free) catered lunches and even better conversation. We talk about the company, our families,'80s sitcoms and everything in between. And most importantly, it's not just mindless chit chat; we actually care about what everyone has to say.

Wednesday at 7:45 p.m.

ZZ Top We get our groove on.

What do Weird Al Yankovic, ZZ Top and Snaggers all have in common?

  1. Fans rush us for autographs at mall food courts.
  2. We chill in the green room before doing our jobs.
  3. We all hang at the SnagAJob.com Pavilion.

If you answered 'A' or 'B,' we're flattered (and blushing). But the correct answer is 'C.' Just a stone's throw from our headquarters is the SnagAJob.com Pavilion, an outdoor performance venue drawing the likes of Weird Al, Taylor Hicks, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Black Crowes and the Indigo Girls. As Snaggers, we get to go check out the concerts (for free) while catching up with each other and helping to promote SnagAJob.com to the concerts' thousands of attendees. Sometimes, we even whip out our air guitars and jam right alongside the real rock stars.

Thursday at 10:17 a.m.

Shawn congratulating Isabel Snaggers stop, collaborate and listen. And learn.

Every Thursday morning, we saddle up in the same meeting area to learn what's going on with the company, each time from a different team's perspective: finance, sales, engineering, etc. It's a look behind the curtain that's almost unheard of at other companies. In addition to learning about our successes, opportunities and the road ahead, Thursday morning's company meetings are also a time to give "shout outs" to fellow Snaggers. This is a chance to recognize each other for going above and beyond in delivering amazing customer service, streamlining a process, getting a sharp new haircut, or snagging a deep fly ball to claim the Monday night softball game in extra innings.

Friday at 4:59 p.m.

Tenille and Jason We close the sale.

It has been a long week, and it is Friday afternoon. But before we power off our PCs, put on flip-flops and head down the hallway to our First Friday happy hour for frosty beverages and tasty treats (We heard they're serving Mexican), we're going to check in with National Account Executive Tennille Boyer:

"The best part of my day is when I connect with a potential client on the phone and by the end of the conversation they are not only ready to try our site, but they are actually excited and can't wait to get started," she says. "I know at that point that I have succeeded in spreading the passion and confidence that I have in our product."

We also seal the metaphorical deal every day at SnagAJob.com. Whether we're bringing a new Snagger aboard, performing needed volunteer services throughout our Greater Richmond, Virginia community or hooking up a frustrated job seeker with a quality hourly gig, we're driven by our results in all areas of the company.

Now excuse us while we follow the trail of tiki torches to that happy hour...

Weekends, after work and in-between time

Jason on bikeJohn skydivingSteve mini-golf Let's get physical!

Whether we're taking a company golf outing en masse to the local mini links, free falling from 14,000 feet or popping a wheelie and getting dirty, we've been known to be a bunch of adrenaline junkies. Some Snaggers run during lunch. Many take to the diamond after work for a little softball action (Hint: Let the team of cops win). Others head straight to the gym; after all, we get reimbursed for half our monthly gym memberships. It's not that we're gluttons for physical punishment. Some of us like to stay in shape. And others of us just need to burn off all the delicious free food we've gobbled up all week.

Culture: defined

"We put people to work ... and doing that for a living in any capacity at SnagAJob.com is so amazingly rewarding. I want to come to work every day. I look forward to working alongside my fellow young (and young-at-heart) Snaggers. Our love for this place is tangible ... vendors comment on it, clients mention it, visitors notice it, and folks who are considering coming onboard testify to it!"
