Five funny stories of workplace romance
Happy endings and horror stories

You’ve heard it a thousand times before: don’t date anyone you work with! You know how it goes. You catch sight of each other across the store, you send each other cute texts, you kiss in the storage room… Then you break up, cringe when you’re stuck on the same shift and trade dirty looks until one of you finds a new job. Ah, love.
Of course, sometimes it all works out. Here are five funny – and true – tales of workplace romance.
Dirty Lawrence
My first job was at City Council, and it was lust at first sight. Lawrence was tall, dark and handsome, with a smile that lit up the room. Our first date was a nightmare. He came to my door looking like a vagabond. He went from handsome to hideous in 24 hours. His coat was filthy. I guess he figured that he no longer needed to be clean. My uncle offered to take us to the mall, my date’s aroma filled up the car and we had to open the windows. He reeked. It was our first and our last date. I will always remember DIRTY LAWRENCE.

Love at the Dollywood sno-cone stand
The summer of '06, I left town (MT) and he quit baseball (TN). We both ended up at Dollywood for a summer program. I thought he hated me but I had a terrible crush. We worked together at a sno-cone and Mini Melts stand; and I tried to park by him... He said at summer’s end he missed me. The fall of '07, he called me, said he saw someone on “The Price is Right” that looked like me. A few standby trips and a summer romance later, I relocated to TN to be with my best friend and love of my life!

“Wow he is ugly”
When I started working in Home Depot I never thought I would gain a soul mate. When I first laid eyes on Shevon I said to my coworkers, “Wow he is ugly.” Like mother always says, be careful what you say because it may come back to haunt you. He was so persistent. Always saying can I help you, he even said would you like my phone number. So one day to get him off my back I took it. When I was ready to call him, guess what, I lost his number (not on purpose). Eventually I got it back and gave him mine to show that I was not being mean.
When we finally got around to going out we went for a stroll on the beach and while the sun was setting he took me in his arms and kissed me. From that moment I have loved him and three years later we are very happy and planning to marry soon. As for Home Depot, thank you so much. It’s definitely the store that has everything.

Meat counter heartbreak
While working the meat counter, a very pretty customer came to me and asked for oranges. I pointed to the produce stand in front of the meat counter, plainly in view. She then asked for cold oranges, and asked my help in finding good ones. I wondered why she would ask for my help with this, but I helped anyway. As we talked, she asked me what I did for fun in my mountain (CA) town, if I had a car, and if I got to the desert (CA) area where she lived, which I said I did rarely. She “suggested” I visit, and soon, and often.
It was then I noticed her beautiful brown eyes, and how she couldn’t stop looking at me, and was talking to me and flirting with me in front of her date!! I also noticed then I couldn’t stop looking at her. We talked for 45 minutes in the store, then she gave me her phone number before she left. She “suggested” I call her soon. I went home and called her THAT NIGHT, where we talked for 8 1/2 more hours. I went to work that morning, sleepless but refreshed and energetic!! She visited me every day that week, moved in with me a week later, and in 5 months we were married!! 4 years later we were divorced, but I’ll never forget that day and those beautiful brown eyes.....

A mysterious disappearance
I used to work at KFC. Then a coworker saw this guy come in to turn in an application and she had me turn around and look. After I got a good look at him, I looked back at my coworker and said damn. He started working and he was about the finest worker there. Months go by and I just still use him as eye candy. The phone rings and I answer it. The person asks if he (the guy that I think is so fine) was working. I told them yeah. Next thing I know a whole bunch of cops come running in. Then I don’t see him or hear from him.
Two years passed and I still think about this guy. I pull into work one day and a truck pulls up right next to mine. Because there are a bunch of empty parking spaces and the person decides to park right next to me, I started getting scared so I was trying to get out really fast so I could hurry up and go inside. So I get out of my car looking down and someone is standing right behind my car. I look up and it was him! The guy I've been thinking about for 2 years. We started working together again but this time we actually made our move. Now we have been together for about a year and a half now and still going strong. Stay with the one you love, because the one you love will stay with the one they love and it might not be you.
