Your craziest working mom moments

How do you deal with disasters like these?

Working moms are some of the hardest workers on the planet! Not only do they have to balance work and home, they have to deal with unforeseen disasters – like cell phone mishaps, “creative” fashion choices and kids who say a little too much. Check out these hilarious real-life stories from working mothers.

Don't let your kids talk to your boss.

My funniest moment had to be when I took my 6-year-old son and husband into my job to get some new hoodies. It was the first time my 6-year-old had ever been in there. So my boss walks by and says “Welcome to Old Navy, is this your son?” And my son says “Mommy, is this the job you said you are sick and tired of coming into?” I acted like I didn’t hear him but I know my boss did.

This working mother knows how to stick to a routine.

I have been a single working mom for more than 14 years, and I used to take my two younger children to middle school and my oldest to high school on my way. However once my oldest started to drive, that became his daily route: taking his brother and sister and sitting in the long drop-off line. Well, shortly after he took over, I did my daily route, took my kids to school, sat in line, got to the drop-off point only to discover I did not have anyone in the car to drop off, they had ridden with their brother to school. How crazy is that? I still laugh about this one.

Now she sets her phone on “silent.”

I took a coveted day off of work to attend my preschooler's first field trip. I couldn't miss that, now could I? My office mates felt otherwise... While we tramped through a garden and about a wooded area my iPhone, which I'd thrown in my pocket, went off every few minutes. I got some glares from the stay-at-home mommies who have no clue what it's like to juggle two small, growing businesses and a house with two small children. But I thought I was pretty discreet, and did keep it on vibrate to keep the interruptions to a minimum. So I thought... One of the 3-year-olds with our group noticed during a presentation. He piped up in his extra-loud voice, “Your vibrator keeps going off! You aren't supposed to do that at school.” Mortification – to the highest degree.

This working mom learned the hard way not to let her children answer the phone.

I started a florist business when I was 19 years old. I was based out of a building on my parents’ property for several years. After getting married and later building a home, my husband and I decided that I would continue to operate the business part time while raising our two sons. I did quite a bit of business over the phone before we had a computer and Internet services. I never knew who would be calling and did my best to answer the phone every time. There would be customers, wholesalers for floral and craft supplies along with business contacts calling on a daily basis. One day the phone rang while I was occupied in the bathroom. I heard my precious little boy's voice as he answered the call with a cheerful, “Hello.” I was at the sink washing my hands. I held my breath and listened, suddenly mortified as the 5-year-old piped up happily, “Nah, she's just pooping.”

These working moms started their own fashion trends. By accident.

Mornings were really hectic for me and I remember this particular morning one spring. I dropped my third grader off at school and my toddler at the day care. I had not exactly dressed in total darkness. I decided I would pick up a few things at the Target and I noticed two ladies looking at me and smiling, I looked at them and smiled back. I was really dressed nice that day in red and navy blue. I got to work and again my coworkers were looking and smiling. Finally one coworker pulled me to the side and asked if I was o.k. She proceeded to tell me I had on a blue shoe and red shoe and one heel was taller than the other one. I looked down and then and only then did I realize I had been walking with some difficulty.

I'm a working mom with three sons. When I was a teacher's assistant, as usual the morning was very hectic. I rushed around getting myself ready and prodding my sons along. Out the door we went, my youngest son remembered he had forgotten his sunglasses. We rushed back in the house to get them. I started in my room to look and actually screamed which scared my son. I stood there in shock looking at my skirt lying on the ironing board. I looked down and realized I was only wearing my slip. I had almost made it to work in just my slip. Of course everyone at school found out and our principal told my sons, “Keep an eye on mom and make sure she's dressed before school each day.” I'm still reminded of it by my sons, friends and coworkers and that was several years ago. Of course the joking is good-natured and playful. I was actually glad it had brought so much laughter to everyone including myself.

Working moms need someone to look out for them.

My daughter is the only girl of five kids. She's always teased in our family for her bossy ways and her self-proclamation as “the lil' mama” of the house. It was evident when a few years back I complained of possible food poisoning after dining out with the kids. I awoke the next morning to a phone call from grandma telling me that my daughter had left her a voice message to come over and take care of me because I was sick. After a brief talk with my daughter praising her for being so concerned and priding myself for having raised such an empathetic child, I was shocked back to reality when she urged me to take it easy around the house as she'd also speed dialed my boss the night before and told her that I wouldn't be coming in to work either! My boss said she'd received the message at 2 a.m. – my daughter had apparently remembered to call on her way to go potty in the middle of the night! My daughter's response...”You should be glad I cared, the boys didn't even give it a second thought!” My lil' angel!!!
