All About Cashier Jobs
“Cleanup on aisle three.”
Ah, the life of a cashier. Part customer service, part salesperson and part cleanup crew, this job is anything but boring. Sure, you might have to clean up the gallon of milk that kid just spilled but getting a cashier job also means you’re going to meet some awesome people, make some new friends and get some great work experience. This is a great first job.
Best of all, there are cashier jobs almost everywhere. You can get a cashier job in a movie theater, your favorite clothing store, a restaurant, a video game store or a grocery store. Perks for cashiers can be pretty sweet (free popcorn, anyone?) but the pay is usually around minimum wage.
Cashier job descriptions
While it varies from store to store, as a cashier you’ll likely be responsible for ringing people up, taking their money and giving them their change and a receipt. You’ll probably bag their purchase and might even handle returns and exchanges.
At the end of a shift, you’ll have to count the money in your cash register to make sure you have the amount the computer says you should. This is a job where you’ll want to watch your pennies pretty closely. Although you probably won’t get in trouble for occasionally being a few cents short, you could get walking papers if it happens too often.
