Back to schoolAdd a new job to your back-to-school checklist

Although you may be in denial, the truth is that summer's ending and school is right around the corner. Whether you want to keep your summer job once classes start or find a new place of employment for the fall, we've got some advice on how to transition back into school while still working hard on the job:
  • Write down everything you've got going on this year and figure out how many hours per week you'll be able to dedicate to a job. You'll want to budget your time so you don't end up with too much on your plate. This way, you'll already have a schedule to give to your manager so you can both map out your shifts.
  • Start your job search now to beat the back-to-school rush and give yourself enough time to transition into your new role before the homework starts piling up.
  • Talk to your employer as soon as possible and let him or her know you're interested in remaining a part of the staff.
  • Make sure you leave time in your new schedule for studying and just hanging out with friends and family so that you don't burn yourself out.
You should always be aware of on-the-job age requirements if you're under 18. It's also important to know how to balance work with school, friends and family so that you don't end up with too much on your plate.
