As we kick off Day Two of the Hire Minds Hiring Summit, let’s quickly rewind and rehash some of Thursday’s best takeaways:
5. “It’s all about individuals.”
– Snagajob Founder and CEO Shawn Boyer
You can categorize members of the hourly workforce into a zillion buckets and offer benefits superior to even the sweetest salaried gigs. But unless you get to know individual workers and treat them as such, all your efforts ring hollow.
4. “Pay attention to the gorilla in the room.”
– TJ Schier, President and Founder of Incentivize Solutions
This applies figuratively to the human touch driving your front-line service. And it literally applied to this video. (Can you count how many times they bounce the ball?)
3. “Consistency is the most lacking of the three Cs.” (And compliancy and clarity often go M.I.A. in onboarding, too.)
– Rosette Cataldo, KMS Software
Having documented, repeatable processes is the best way to avoid the ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement), which has stepped up its efforts to unprecedented levels over the past three years. Having documented…. you get it.
2. “You don’t need a social media policy.”
– Ben Eubanks, upstartHR
Ben thinks having a policy for the sake of a policy isn’t worth it, and that the same behaviors you want to target and curb in the social sphere can be included under general HR code of conduct provisions. Ben also likes to be controversial, if you hadn’t guessed.
1. “Appreciate the family.”
Best-selling author and acclaimed speaker Chester “The Dalai Lama of Workplace Drama” Elton
Recognizing your employees with timely, specific and frequent praise is “Carrot Principle” 101. Finding fitting and unique ways to thank and reward employees’ families is just as critical – but that much more difficult. Try flowers, dinner out or an extra day off, for starters.
