Hourly employees are usually thought of as teens or young adults but studies have shown that the face of the industry is changing. Looking at restaurants, a report from TDn2k, showed that a quarter of employees hired in 2013 were about 28 years old for QSR’s and about 30 years old for fast-casual (PRWEB).
The change isn’t just limited to food-service. Retail, custodial, and hospitality positions have all shown a steady increase in maturity. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has even reported that in 2012, 80 percent of hourly workers were over 25. The aging demographic of hourly workers is likely to continue but the benefits of older employees make this an exciting trend. As the hourly industry continues to play an important role in the economy, even more developments are bound to come. For now, employers are embracing the change and enjoying the traits of more mature job seekers.
