It’s estimated that 50 percent of adults set them every year. Lose weight. Stop smoking. Get out of debt. Learn something new. Find a better job.

The top New Year’s resolutions don’t change much from year to year. That’s because they are noble goals that many of us share. Psychologists tell us that we set resolutions because we like starting from scratch, yearn for betterment or are just suckers for tradition.

Regardless of your resolution or reason, many find that setting resolutions can help achieve goals. In fact, a study in the “Journal of Clinical Psychology” found that 46 percent of people who made resolutions were successful compared to only 4 percent who had a goal in mind but didn’t consider it a resolution.

We’re not immune to social rituals, so here we go. Snagajob’s 2012 New Year’s resolutions for our employer blog:

  • Talk training. With the launch of our Training Manager solution, we’ll get more vocal about ways to train your hourly workforce more effectively. Training is one of the key drivers of employee productivity – and your profitability – and when you can implement improvements in your training program, it’s like a double whammy of productivity.
  • Get specific. The way a 500-location franchise and a 15-location franchise hire are different, and restaurants are looking for different employees than the home health care industry. While there are some overarching issues that almost all hourly businesses face, the majority of your challenges or opportunities are specific to your size or industry. Next year we’re going to dig deeper into recruiting, hiring and retention issues specific to the many audiences that make up the hourly industry.
  • Help you build better workplaces. There is a reason we were named the No. 1 Best Small Company to Work for in America by the Great Place to Work Institute and Entrepreneur: it was our goal. We devote a ton of time and energy to cultivating a best-in-class culture because we see how it fuels our results. But we need to do a better job of sharing with you what’s worked, what hasn’t and what we’re experimenting with next.

Now that we’ve professed our resolutions, rest assured we’ll be among that 46 percent who keep them. Because when we keep our resolutions to bring you relevant, actionable information, you can become more productive and profitable, which makes our year.
