Ben Gallaher wins Snagajob’s The Hourly Gig national music contest
More than 32,000 votes cast; Gallaher will open for Brantley Gilbert on Sept. 19
Snagajob, America’s largest hourly employment network for job seekers and employers, announced today that Ben Gallaher has won The Hourly Gig contest, which invited hourly employees and job seekers to submit videos of original songs for a chance to open for country rock-star Brantley Gilbert. Gallaher will open for Gilbert at the Sept. 19, 2012, Innsbrook After Hours concert held at the Snagajob Pavilion in Richmond, Va.
Gallaher, 19, submitted his original song, “Hold onto Me,” in the contest to showcase his country-rock style. The Harrisburg, Pa. native is currently a junior at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., and a part-time landscaper.
“I’m a huge Brantley Gilbert fan, so I can’t wait to perform for his fans,” said Gallaher. “My job has given me the flexibility to pursue my music, so I have lots of great songs ready to rock Innsbrook.”
The Hourly Gig, sponsored by Snagajob, was launched to give hourly employees and job seekers a chance to showcase their musical talents.
“Finding a talent like Ben only confirms what we already knew,” said Jason Hamilton, vice president of marketing for Snagajob. “That many people work hourly positions while they pursue other passions and that there’s a lot of great, undiscovered talent out there getting paid by the hour.”
More than 600 videos were submitted during the contest, which began on Aug. 16, 2012. A judging panel comprising members of the music, entertainment and hourly employment industries selected five finalists based on each submission’s creativity, talent and entertainment value. Public voting to determine the winner was held Sept. 5 – 12, 2012. More than 32,000 votes were cast for the finalists.
