Snagajob poll reveals best depiction of an hourly worker

RICHMOND, Va. – Okay, it may not be an Academy Award – at least not yet – but Viola Davis’ portrayal of a loyal and courageous maid in “The Help” has earned her the latest honors: Best On-Screen Portrayal of an Hourly Worker in 2011.

Davis’ dignified portrayal of Aibileen Clark bested a pair of not-so-reliable retail clerks portrayed by Kristin Wiig (“Bridesmaids”) and Russell Brand (“Arthur”) as well as Analeigh Tipton’s babysitter (“Crazy, Stupid, Love”).  The online survey of hourly workers was conducted by hourly job specialists Snagajob.

“Hourly workers clearly felt a connection with Davis’ portrayal of a dedicated, hard-working maid and nanny,” said Rick Parker, senior vice president of marketing for Snagajob. “Aibileen not only stole the hearts and votes of hourly workers but her strong work ethic reflected the very best qualities of today’s hourly worker.”

Among the other actors included in the poll were Russell Brand, a candy store clerk in “Arthur;” Kristin Wiig, a jewelry store clerk character in “Bridesmaids;” and Analeigh Tipton, for her role as a baby-sitter in “Crazy, Stupid, Love.”

To gauge a quick snapshot of hourly workers’ sentiments during awards season, Snagajob hosted the poll on its homepage between February 2 and February 13, 2012, and captured more than 500 votes. Based on age, site visitors were asked to select choices from a list of the actors and their respective roles. Below is a list of expanded results.
