What we’re reading
Every day, articles are published in major publications and newsletters on hiring topics and the hourly marketplace. We read them all and share the best articles and feature stories with you. Check out what the staff at Snagajob has been reading this month.
Utilizing Facebook and other social media communities to manage employee relationships and post schedules can be a convenient and free tool for employers, allowing them to communicate in real-time with their staff. But don’t let your profile page be your shield when tackling tough conversations, such as letting someone go. It may be a better idea to privately discuss poor performance or troubles you are having with an employee instead of publically removing them from the schedule without warning.
Cool foods by SXSW
At this year’s South by Southwest Interactive Festival, held March 7-11 in Austin, Texas, we followed not only cutting-edge technologies but some innovative food inventions we couldn’t wait to share. First, thanks to the edible cookie shot glasses created by Dominique Ansel (the creator of the famous Cronut), you’ll never look at milk and cookies the same. Next up, edible customized 3D cookies to make your very own 3D-printed Oreos. Thank you Mondelez and Twitter for creating something we’ve been living far too long without. Lastly, the IBM food truck – haven’t we all been waiting for a machine that thinks like our stomachs? Bringing strange but delicious meal combinations around the country, this truck may be headed your way soon.
The mobile payment phenomena
Burger King was quick to market, but Wendy’s was a close second in offering mobile payment options for consumers. The growing number of transactions made with a smartphone has begun to transform the payment processes for these restaurants and more. Industry movers McDonald’s and Starbucks have stated there are plans underway for mobile payment options to be rolled out soon as well.
