It’s a lot to handle, especially if you’ve never written a resume before – that’s why we’re here to help. No need to worry about objective statements here. We’ll teach you a few simple tricks that will turn your Snagajob profile into a basic resume and we’ll even give you examples to help you follow along.
Creating a resume using your profile is easy and fast.
Just follow these steps!
1. Contact information. Take the information you gave us – your name, address, phone number and email address – and put it at the top of the page. You can underline it, bold it and center it if you want, but you don’t have to – check out the resume sample below for an example. Just make sure this information is at the top of your resume and that it is current. It should look like this:
Jane Snag
2222 Snag Road
Richmond, VA 23220
804-555-5555
janesnag@email.com
2. Experience. Head to the experience section of your profile and copy the information from these sections: Employer, City, State, Duration and Responsibilities. Then paste it into your resume.
Start with your most recent job and work your way back to your first job. Don’t forget to add details that separate you from the pack – especially management experience, training experience, and awards. You may want to bold the job title and use bullets for your job description to make your resume easier to read, like this sample resume section:
Experience:
Head Cashier, Joe’s Gas and Groceries, Richmond, Virginia, May 2008-present
• Responsible for cash and credit transactions.
• Cleaned work area daily.
• Assisted store manager with employee schedules.
Server, Joe’s Chicken Shack, Richmond, Virginia, March 2007 – May 2008
• Waited on guests eating in the restaurant.
• Responsible for cleaning my assigned station.
• Responsible for cashing other servers out at the end of the night.
3. Education. Leave a little space below the job experience section and then add in your education. Make sure to include the name and location of the school, if you graduated and what kind of degree you received. You can leave off the date; the hiring manager doesn't need to know how old you are.
Education:
Graduate of Snagger High School, Richmond, Virginia
or
B.A. in Business, University of Virginia
You can jazz up your resume by adding additional sections such as a “computer skills” section or a “certifications” section – just in case you have some technical knowledge you want to show off. Hopefully this, along with some of our other job tips, will help you score the job you want!
