Michaels Operations Department Manager Job Overview

 Become a Michaels Operations Department Manager!

The Operations Department Manager will drive store sales and perform administrative duties supporting the store’s record keeping activities and oversee the management of the front checkouts. This position serves as Manager On Duty (MOD) coverage for days and rotating weekends as part of the management rotation and carries a perimeter and POS management key. This position can serve as the Captain of the SBA and Seasonal Distribution Center truck processes.

On days the Support Specialist is also scheduled, the Operations Department Manager focuses on replenishment, stocking, freight receiving and MOD activities.

The Operations Department Manager performs the duties and responsibilities of the part time Support Specialist when the Support Specialist is not scheduled.

  • Must successfully pass a background check.
  • High School education or equivalent with at least 2 years experience in retail with Michaels or another retail organization.
  • Must be able to effectively and efficiently manage the store when Manager On Duty.
  • Must understand and have a working knowledge of cash and POS management, refunds and voids, shrinkage and margin control, security and loss prevention procedures.
  • Must have strong communication skills and be able to communicate in a professional manner with district management, store management, co-workers, and customers.
  • Must be able to work with minimum of supervision.
  • Requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Full Time associates must be available to work 40 hours per week, including rotating mornings, nights and weekends as identified in the Scheduling SOP.
