 Cashier

The Cashier is responsible for the proper and efficient operation of his or her shift, within company policy, in such a manner as to ensure that the shift contributes to the increased profitability of the facility.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs specific tasks as assigned by the Facility Manager, Assistant Facility Manager, and/or Customer Service Supervisor (Management).
  • Assists Management in seeing that the store maintains total interior and exterior cleanliness and appearance to Company image standards; adheres to Company’s uniform and dress code policy.
  • Gives all customers prompt and courteous service, with appropriate greeting and closure.
  • Adheres to all Local, State, and Federal laws and regulations, including those regarding the sale of tobacco and alcohol.
  • Follows the work schedule as posted, unless a change in schedule is arranged with Management.
  • Stays familiar with the Company Price Book, Operations Manual, and bulletins.
  • Ensures that Management is made aware of all discrepancies in sales, cash, inventory, and other areas.
  • Operates shift within company guidelines to achieve sales and profit.
  • Properly verifies and signs time card for all times worked in a workweek.
  • Rings all sales in accordance with company policy.
  • Accurately posts markups, markdowns, voids, bad merchandise write-offs, and store use of merchandise, within established guidelines.
  • Changes posted retail gasoline prices; assists management in monitoring and reporting competitors’ retail gasoline pricing.
  • Shares the responsibility for controlling cash, inventory, and drive-offs on his/her shift.
  • Controls amount of cash in register drawer to be within Company guidelines.
  • Protects Company assets at all times.
  • Keeps coolers, shelves, and displays fully stocked and fronted at all times.
  • Properly cleans and maintains equipment and readies products such as coffee, fountain drinks, fast food, etc., as directed by Management.
  • Uses correct pricing as listed in the Company Price Book.
  • Uses selling techniques as directed by Management.
  • Cleans windows, floors, shelving, counters, and coolers to ensure they remain clean at all times; cleans restrooms as scheduled by Management; wipes down and polishes fuel pumps, sweeps and washes lot and sidewalks, picks up trash/debris, empties trash containers.
  • Plants flowers and assists in maintenance of landscaping; pulls weeds.
  • Shovels snow from, and spreads salt on, sidewalks and pump islands.
  • Checks refrigeration equipment for proper performance as directed by Management.
  • Reports all maintenance problems, accidents, security issues, and other emergencies immediately to Management and/or the proper Company personnel and/or local law enforcement and other necessary personnel.
  • Properly reports all drive-offs, thefts, robberies, and other incidents.
  • Advises Management of all policy violations and any personnel situations having an adverse effect on facility operating performance.
  • Where applicable, cleans, stocks, maintains car wash and other equipment as directed by Management.
  • Strictly follows Franchise and/or Company operations procedures, as directed by Management, in the preparation and sale of all food service products. Refer to “Crew Member” job description for details (Customer Service Specialist II only).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and speak the English language at the eighth-grade level, including the ability to hear the spoken word.
  • Ability to count, and make change for, U.S. currency.
  • Skill in operating various office equipment, such as a telephones, calculators, and facsimile machines.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating manuals, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to comprehend common sense understanding in carrying out instructions in written and oral form.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, peers, supervisors, and vendors in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to work with moderate to minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with regards to Company information.
  • Ability to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
  • Ability to perform activities such as sweeping and mopping floors, dusting and stocking shelves, cleaning pumps, parking lot, and surrounding area.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to gasoline and cleaning products fumes.
  • Ability to enter and work in a cooler at a temperature of twenty degrees for up to ten minutes at a time.

 

 

Education and Experience:

 

  • High school graduate or equivalent is preferred; or one year’s experience in retail and/or training.

 

 

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Seeing: Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, i.e. reading reports and using a cash register, and distance vision, i.e. viewing pump islands.
  • Hearing: Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with customers and co-workers: identify tank monitor and other warning signals.
  • Standing/Walking/Mobility: Frequently required to stand and walk: mobility between all areas of the facility.
  • Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: Must be able to climb or balance: stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: Must regularly lift, pull, or push items such as merchandise, cleaning products, and miscellaneous equipment, up to heights that require the elbow to be at shoulder level. Must be able to exert up to 65 pounds of force occasionally, up to 45 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force regularly to move objects.
  • Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Must be able to write, type, use a phone, handle currency, and grasp and handle merchandise and other various items.
