Boss Shops Manager Job Overview

Summary: Maintain smooth, efficient and quality operation of the shop while over seeing shift supervisors, technicians, and sales associates, and by handling any problems arising, by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ensure invoices are turned in daily.
  • Keep procedure manuals updated and accessible for mechanics.
  • Review daily tickets to insure correct pricing. Keep labor and parts prices updated.
  • Handle all problems that can't be handled at a lower level (customer, personnel, mechanical).
  • Bring mistakes to the attention of shop personnel so they can improve.
  • Train Shift Supervisors and Parts Managers.
  • Train management staff on the understanding monthly budgets and monthly P&L statements.
  • Reprimand managers/employees, terminate as needed.
  • Ensure all employees are trained properly and follow procedures set forth.
  • Do weekly shop schedule, maintaining minimum overtime to keep labor within budget goals.
  • Ensure cleanliness of the shop, inside and out, and stock levels are maintained.
  • Maintain parts room inventory levels, cleanliness and organization.
  • Ensure all shop personnel are in approved uniforms and follow uniform policy guidelines. Ensure all shop personnel act and look professional.
  • Ensure service equipment is in good working condition and well maintained.
  • Do evaluations on new hires after 90 days and all employees quarterly or as needed.
  • Hold shop training meetings at least monthly to keep all personnel informed on pricing, policies and procedures, sale tires and other merchandise.
  • Count tires after before every shift daily and keep a tight control on tire inventory.
  • Do monthly inventory counts as required and turned in by the first of the month.
  • Perform inventory spot checks weekly.
  • Evaluate and document any return job problems and be able to remedy the problem and communicate this to upper management.
  • Maintain a profitable business unit.
  • Update all national accounts daily.
  • Enforce and practice all company safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for employees and customers.
  • MUST BE A HANDS ON MANAGER.
  • Attend upper management meetings, as required and communicate with upper management on a regular basis.
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervises Up to 10 employees in the Boss Shop. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Current valid driver's license and be insurable to drive.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Degree in Mechanics or equivalent, and inventory control experience.
  • Acceptable driving record.
  • Able to supervise 10 or more employees.
  • Basic typing skills.
  • Basic understanding of computer operations.

  • Must work a minimum of 50 hours per week.
