The Assistant Manager achieves proficiency in all areas of retail operation during training period. Progressively assumes growing responsibility to serve as second in charge of operation to the Store Manager. Assumes responsibility for specific functions (cashiering, sales, receiving, administration processes). Provides leadership and direction to the store team, ensures the positive customer shopping experience, and performs operational activities throughout the store or gives appropriate direction to others to do so.
Principle Responsibilities
- Successfully complete all phases of the management-training program within 12-18 month period
- Responsible for specific functions/areas
- Receiving and freight movement
- Outdoor displays, side lot, and tagging
- Zero Peg/Super Peg program
- Feed management
- Front end controls
- Dotted-line functional responsibility in terms of providing leadership and direction to team members in the areas specifically assigned and to the entire store team in the absence of the Store Manager. Effectively use the Daily Planner in this process.
- Support staffing needs of the store by assisting with hiring, interviewing, training, and scheduling
- In conjunction with Store Manager, responsible for the effective coordination of store activities to maximize sales, profits, and provide the customer an outstanding shopping experience
- Achieve sales and profit plans
- Promote a safe and productive work environment for Team Members and customers
Principle Duties
- Continue to perform operational tasks/activities in all areas of the store as business dictates (i.e. receive trucks, process freight, sell, complete customer transactions at register, etc.)
- Support special projects at other stores within the district as determined by the District Manager (i.e. resets, inventories, covering Store Manager vacation, etc.)
- Plan, organize and execute tasks/activities to company standards
- Analyze reports and make necessary decisions based on finding (i.e. P&L, MARS, etc.)
- Documentation of team member evaluations and corrective action
Position Requirements
Experience and Education
- Previous retail experience preferred
- High school diploma or the equivalent
- Bachelor degree in agricultural-science or business related field desired

- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must have a Valid Driver’s License if you drive for company business
Essential Functions of the Job
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, team member is regularly required to:
- Perform and execute principle responsibilities
- Process information / merchandise through system and POS Register system
- Communicate effectively with team members and customers
- Read, write, and count to accurately complete all documentation
- Freely access all areas of the store including selling floor, side lot, stock area and register area
- Operate and use all equipment necessary to run a store such as a dolly, hand-truck, forklift, computer and cash register
- Squat, bend, stoop and climb ladders
- Move and transfer merchandise generally weighing 0 – 50 pounds throughout the store
- Work varied hours, days, night and weekends as business dictates, plus six days a week during peak seasons in the spring and fall
- Work a minimum of 48 hours per week
- Stand and walk for long periods of time often up to four hours straight without a break
- Travel to other store locations and to company functions
