About this job

Lobby Attendants are responsible for the cleaning of the Lobby area of a property, including entrances, doorways, sidewalks, public restrooms, and grounds.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Clean public toilets, restroom doors, floors and sinks
  • Sweep, mop and vacuum floors
  • Polish wood, marble and other materials in public view, clean windows
  • Empty trash containers and replace trash bags
  • Detail oriented with the ability to spot safety hazards and items that need to be cleaned
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Requests assistance from Supervisor or other employees when needed
  • Is receptive to coaching and feedback from Supervisor and or others in authority
  • Follows all required safety and standard operating procedures
  • Adheres to all company and regulatory policies and standards of conduct
  • This position does not exercise supervisory responsibilities

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Lobby Attendants work indoors and outdoors. While indoors, the environment usually is well lit and air-conditioned. However, the Lobby attendant may be exposed to some hazardous fumes and substances, as well as blood-borne pathogens while cleaning. Inclement weather may pose some challenges for outdoor tasks.

Training

Almost all new employees receive some training from their supervisors or more experienced workers.  Workers typically learn basic customer service, and safety procedures.  This helps new attendants establish a personal rapport with other staff and guests and teaches formal techniques.

Advancement

Advancement opportunities are often limited to those who remain on the job for a long period of time. After gaining experience, some attendants advance to a variety of opportunities that include lead and supervisory positions.

Skill and Specialized Knowledge

Customer service skills. Lobby Attendants represent the hotel. As a result, they must be courteous, professional, and helpful toward the public and customers.

People skills. Lobby Attendants are friendly, tactful, and attentive when dealing with their colleagues.

Stamina. Lobby Attendants work on their feet for long periods of time. Many may lift heavy objects and push heavy carts, bend, kneel, climb, reach.

Teamwork. Lobby Attendants must work well with their colleagues to ensure that customers receive prompt service.

Listening skills. Lobby Attendants must be good listeners. They must listen patiently to the points being made, wait to speak until others have finished, and ask appropriate questions when necessary. 

Speaking skills. Communicating clearly is essential for Lobby Attendants because much of their job involves conveying information verbally. 

To perform the job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Must meet company and hotel hire requirements
  • Prior housekeeping, janitorial, or customer service experience a plus
  • Experience working in a hotel or similar environments
  • Able to work with a variety of cleaning equipment and chemicals
  • Must be physically fit to lift and carry at least 25 lbs.
  • Able to stand and walk over extensive time periods
  • Able to work in uncomfortably hot or cold environments or in uncomfortable and cramped positions
  • Able to perform all duties as instructed and assigned
  • Able to read and write English proficiently in order to read and store chemical agents and converse easily with guests
  • Able to work as part of a team and independently
  • Must meet company and hotel grooming standards
  • Must wear slip resistant shoes to avoid slips and falls
  • Must have reliable transportation

Education and Experience

High School diploma or GED preferred but not required

Work Schedule

Must be able to work a flexible schedule; morning, evenings, weekends and holidays

Report to work on schedule dates and time and maintain a responsible attendance record
