Welder Job Description

Position Summary

Welds metal components together to fabricate  (may repair products) according to layouts, blueprints, or work orders, using welding equipment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

* 1. Removes rough spots from castings, using portable powered grinder and hand file, to finsh welded parts

* 2. Positions components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding   

* 3. Verities positions components on assembly table, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and rule

* 4. Lifts and positions components on assembly table using electric crane, jacks, and shims 

* 5. Repairs cracked or broken parts

* 6. Welds various metal parts together

*7.  Operates various equipment necessary to fabricate metal parts

*8.  Moves assembly to storage area, using electric crane

*9.  Receives instructions and work orders for the jobs.  Plans details of working procedures and tools and material requiremenets

*10.  Fabricates equipment by cutting, burning and welding various metals.  Repairs equipment by using welding techniques and appropriate welding equipment.

*11.  Cleans and prepares surfaces to be welded.  Sets up, assembles, and tacks weld parts.

*12.  Builds up worn or defective surfaces

*13.  Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly.

*14.  Any other duties or tasks as may be deemed necessary by the Plant Supervisor

 

 

 

Educational and/or Experience Requirements:

 

·         High School Diploma or GED preferred.

·         Work involves high degree of accuracy and attention to detail is critical.

·         3 yrs. experience in similar position and 3yrs in a manufacturing environment is preferred.

·         Reasoning ability, physical demands of job including use of crane to lift large objects.

·         Safe work practices are expected.

·         Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.  Ability to compute percentages.

·         Steel toe boots, safety glasses and earplugs required.  Shoes reimbursed after 30 days on job (keep receipt). 

·         Primary environment: temperature of work area may be affected by outside temperatures and machining.

·         Industrial lighting is provided.

Shifts:

·         Pay is $14 per hour - 20 welders needed for 2nd shift – 4:30pm – 2:30am

·         ½ dinner and 2 breaks – (1 /15 minute and 1/10 minute)
