Overview:

Associate Colorist is responsible for all aspects of brands color process. This includes development of the color palette, distribution of color standards, requesting development colors approving color submits and overall color consistency within the brand. Additional responsibilities include tracking, follow up and metrics for the color process. This position reports to a Sr. Color Manager or Colorist.

Essential Functions:

    Supports design team in developing seasonal color palette.Maintains history on previous palettes including bestselling information.Provides technical expertise when determining color/fabric combinations for the season.Requests development and production submits.Understands and maintains the brand concept and identity in all approval decisions.Owns or partners with OS Colorist on visual and instrumental color approval decisions for lab dips, trims, and bulk.Partners with Color Standard Supplier and OS Teams to provide technical expertise on challenging color/fabrications.Actively implements the S2M color process and executes against the S2M calendar.Maintains turn time requirements to achieve on time delivery.Provides extensive communication with brand team, overseas offices, suppliers, and mills on correction and performance issues related to color or production technique.Responsible to track and follow up on approval status to maintain on time delivery.Maintain complete and accurate approval books (snip charts) and records for the color approval process.Attends key brand meetings and supports company initiatives.Administers the communication of color palettes through entry of palettes into Macys color system.Distributes color standards and/or color cards to all Macys internal partners.Maintains and updates palette history boards.Provides and maintains bestselling data on colors based on brands key categories.Supports company initiatives by processing submit requests to meet goals of efficient development.Circulates updates to S2M, design, product development teams, offices and suppliers on success of these goals.Initiates approval tracking, follow up, and actively participates in production meetings.Provides metrics for performance assessment. Monitors patterns in performance and makes recommendations.Initiates weekly communication, providing input and approval status information.Anticipates color problems, maintains and reports on the predicted issues log.Proactively resolves concerns or issues on color matches inherent in fabric selections to color manager, design and product development team and assists with print and pattern color evaluation, when needed.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
  • Background in technical color and fabric knowledge with 3-5 years in production or retail
  • Knowledge of dyes, dyeing and printing techniques for varied fiber contents and fabric structures; knowledge of textile structures and their influence on color appearance; knowledge of industry/fabric/color/testing standards
  • Experience with visual and instrumental color evaluation procedures with accurate and consistent technique, ability to use spectrophotometer, light boxes and other color tools
  • Proficiency in PC operation, MS office, Excel and color systems

  • Personable, team and service oriented - ability to build relationships with brand teams

  • Proactive problem solving skills
  • Passing score on 100 Hue test
  • Excellent color / print sense
  • Strong ability to differentiate color, accurately and consistently describe color differences
  • Highly organized, ability to prioritize (sense of urgency) and attention to detail required
