Service Associate

Under the direction of the store manager the primary function of the Service Associate is to provide fast, friendly service to all customers and to contribute to the sales increase and probability of the store.  A primary goal of the Village Pantry is to achieve an Excellence in Customer Service.  Excellent Customer Service includes quality of service, availability of products and the cleanliness of our equipment and facilities.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Essential Functions:

  • Provide excellent service to all customers taking care to be courteous and helpful
  • Operate cash register, money order machine, credit card terminal and lotto terminal
  • Clean, organize and restock product and supply items at the fountain beverage center, self-serve bakery and sit down areas as a matter of first priority and time there is a lull in customer activity at the checkout counter
  • Prepare coffee, deli sandwiches and popcorn as needed
  • Clean register area and counter tops as needed
  • Protect and preserve the assets of the company
  • Maintain proper cash levels in the registers at all times.  Amounts should not exceed $100 between 6:00AM and 8:00PM and $50 between 8:00PM and 6:00AM
  • Follow all Policies and Procedures as outlined in the Village Pantry Manual

Job Requirements:

  • Stock cigarettes, candy, groceries, cooler and frozen food cases
  • Areas to clean include: shelves, counters, floors, cooler, glass display cases, windows, doors, parking lot, fuel island, backrooms and restrooms.
  • Dust and pull product forward on shelves once per shift
  • Check temperatures of refrigerated and frozen cases twice per shift
  • Wear proper uniform, nametag and buttons while adhering to the highest standards of personal hygiene
  • Practice suggestive selling according to specific Company programs in a systematic effort to increase dollar amount of each sale
  • Complete the list of duties left by the Store Manager

Requirements

Desirable Education and Experience:

  • Knowledge, skill, and experience equivalent to completion of High School or a GED
  • Must possess basic numerical, comprehensive, oral communications and follow through skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25lbs and place it on a shelf five feet high
  • Must be able to stand for an eight-hour shift
  • Must be able to bend, lift, reach and climb for the purposes of stocking cooler, freezer and grocery merchandise and to maintain the sanitation program of the store for 95% of an eight-hour shift

Attendance Requirements:

Absences that exceed an average of one day per month shall be considered excessive and subject to disciplinary action as outlined in the Village Pantry Policy Manual
