Job Summary
The primary purpose of a Forklift Operator is to lift material / load and unload trucks / place on racks.
Job Responsibilities
•The Forklift Operator performs a variety of duties involved in receiving, handling, marking, preparing, and racking.
•Receives supplies, equipment, and perishable, semi-perishable, non-perishable and hazardous and non hazardous materials items in the receiving area of the facility.
•Verifies shipments by checking the shipping documents, making proper notations on the documents, creating shipping documents and identifying any obvious spoilage, damage, overages, or shortages.
• Cleans up broken and spilled items or any items in display cases that require cleaning prior to stocking.
• Breaks down cases as they are emptied and removes cardboard and garbage from the warehouse; loads and unloads trucks and a variety of bin and bulk supplies
• At management's discretion; may include order writing tasks and inventory audits of material transported for daily usage within the department.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
• Ability to read, comprehend and complete basic checklists, forms or other related documents.
• Ability to operate forklift, hand truck and pallet jack
• Ability to effectively work individually or in a team environment
• Ability to meet employer's attendance policy
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Hand / Eye coordination and mobility (ability to move on and off a forklift)
• Ability to see, hear and feel
• Attention to detail, basic math skills (addition/subtraction/division/multiplication) ability to calculate percentages
• General knowledge of the methods used in processing, handling, and storing of materials and equipment through a supply facility; the ability to log - receipt, storage, and shipment data; and the ability to use manual or mechanized equipment to move, stack, bin, and position materials and equipment.
• General knowledge of warehouse plans and procedures, ability to independently load and unload, check and assemble materials, process documents, and route materials and equipment to correct locations or storage areas. Ability to verify or prepare documents either manually or by using automated equipment such as computer terminals and bar code scanners to read, store, track, and prepare materials documentation.
Education and Training
• High School diploma or GED
• Minimum of 1 year related Forklift Operator experience required
• Minimum of 1 year experience in Shipping/Receiving Operations preferred
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record is required
•Training and experience in inventory control preferred
•The ability to read and write
•Safety Certified for Forklift Operations
•Forklift Operator Certification Required
12 Hour Shifts Required
