OptumInsight has a career opportunity for an ETL Data Warehousing Analytics Consultant in its UnitedHealth Group-wide data warehousing and BI analytics area. As a key service function within OptumInsight, the Data Management Solutions organization is integrated into the business planning, program execution, and product development processes across UnitedHealth Group.


Summary


This position is for a senior ETL developer who will participate in the systems development life cycle for new development, enhancements and maintenance projects in Data Warehouse/Data Analytics environment. As a member of the Delivery Management team, the candidate will work with project teams to design, develop and deploy ETL software needed to support a variety of business needs. The position will report to a resource manager, but will be matrixed to project managers for completion of project activity.


Responsibilities


A successful candidate is expected to research, evaluate, identify alternative approaches, recommend, design and code efficient and effective solutions for challenging problems ranging from small to large work efforts for low to high complexity problems. A successful candidate will comply with standards and guidelines related to the design, construction, testing and deployment activities within the Delivery Management environments. A successful candidate will demonstrate collaborative skills working within a project team of diverse skills and will bring communication skills including oral, written and presentation skills, creativity, and problem solving skills to a challenging environment. They may act as a Project Development Lead for the effort, with one or more developers' matrixed for the completion of the project.

Core responsibilities



  • Perform ETL design, development, testing, and deployment activities effectively and efficiently

  • Ensure defined best practices, standards, and guidelines are followed during ETL design & development

  • Perform root-cause analysis and identify alternative solutions to resolve challenging problems, including production issues, efficiently and timely

  • Collaborate with off-shore development team for development activities, production issue resolutions, and mentoring as needed

  • May act as a lead developer and perform planning including creation of Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), completion, and coordination of work activity across all project team members

  • Present ETL designs to technical review boards and other peer review sessions

  • Provide technical leadership regarding ETL design and development

  • Develop data and process flows

  • Provide detailed development estimates

  • Provide consultation to other team members as needed

  • May participate in interviewing future ETL Developer(s) candidates at US and India locations

Requirements

Qualifications



  • Bachelors Degree in computer science, business or other relevant degree; or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of UNIX (AIX preferred) development environment

  • Minimum of 4 years of Native SQL against relational databases

  • Minimum of 4 years Datastage Parallel Extender ETL tool -- version 7.5.2 or greater

  • Minimum of 2 years Tivoli (TWS) or equivalent job scheduling tool experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in complex, cross-departmental projects involving multiple platforms  

  • Experience with an enterprise scheduling system

  • Multiple programming languages (shell scripts, C++)

  • Ability to create complex technical design specifications

  • Ability to create process flow diagrams

  • Ability to read data models

  • Experience with Version, Release and Change Management practices and tools

  • Experience with SDLC development framework

Assets



  • Experience in Agile development

  • Health care industry knowledge

  • Familiarity with metadata tools and processes

  • Mainframe development experience using Cobol, REXX, and MVS JCL
