Job Description:

The Quality Assurance Lead establishes plans and objectives for the Quality Assurance (QA) team, leads and develops staff, and ensures resources are effectively utilized for meeting business goals. He/She drives the team’s results, including quality of work, timeliness, and budgetary goals. This position serves as a technical resource and provides expertise in key UPS business functions and supporting technologies. He/She collaborates with management to plan, coordinate, schedule, and manage QA resources. This position leads the improvement of work procedures and processes. He/She monitors project budget, timelines, and resource allocation (e.g., team members, contractors, vendors, etc.).

This position interacts with staff, customers, Information Services (I.S.) management, internal and external networks, QA professionals, and vendors to ensure effective integration between different functions, units, and teams. He/She contributes to initial project design phases, provides testing expertise, and develops test plans and strategies for projects. This position leads testing and development staff within the testing organization.

Responsibilities:

Leads Testing Team

  • Leads test resources, testing assets (e.g., test labs, test environments, etc.), and testing artifacts (e.g., plans, designs, test data, specifications, etc.) across multiple projects and initiatives to ensure business objectives are met.
  • Coordinates QA functions across testing life cycle (e.g., planning, prioritization, etc.) to maintain project timelines and to achieve objectives.
  • Plans, coordinates, schedules, and supervises resources to meet the future needs of the business and to ensure adherence to functional and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Reviews and approves work products to ensure quality and completeness of testing efforts.
  • Collaborates across the organization to plan, negotiate, and execute QA functions on large, multi-portfolio projects.

Creates Test Plans and Evaluates Progress and Results

  • Reviews, contributes, and creates test plans, test strategy documentation, and project schedules to identify milestone activities.
  • Identifies test functions and required timelines to ensure proper utilization of test resources.
  • Collaborates on cross-portfolio end-to-end test activities and multiple projects to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Assesses product quality and stability to ensure readiness for deployment.
  • Monitors and evaluates test progress and adjusts plans accordingly to ensure objectives and project schedule are achieved.

Analyzes Metrics and Produces QA Reports

  • Analyzes and communicates tactical and strategic test metrics to key project stakeholders to provide visibility across the enterprise.
  • Conducts post phase and project analyses to identify process improvements.
  • Utilizes defect tools to assess product quality, to communicate project status, and to identify project risks.

Leads Test Planning

  • Engages at project inception to drive quality and to conduct initial test planning and estimation activities.
  • Provides solutions for continuous process improvement to increase efficiency and improve quality.
  • Develops test strategies and plans for leveraging QA expertise to enhance team technical expertise and to support technologies.
  • Executes test strategies and plans for larger or multiple projects and reviews project test plans to define how testing will be conducted.
