Job Description


Performs duties to ID/OD grind a variety of products in accordance with prescribed procedures and quality standards.

The CNC OD Grinder contributes to the timely delivery and quality of tools like described in the Quality Manual. Grinding time is an integral part of our on time delivery measurable.

Job Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (in order of importance):
Follows safety rules
Reads, understands, and follows safety rules per OSHA and company guidelines
Sets up CNC OD grinder
Sets work offsets to tell program how much material to take off of parts
Sets wheel head to tell program what inclination the wheel should turn at when grinding the face of parts
Dresses wheel with dressing diamond to tell grinder where wheel is located
Touches off part to teach grinder where parts are located
Gathers and secures appropriate wheel, center, and parts
Cleans center and parts prior to securing them to the grinder in order to maintain blue print specifications
Sets up air and mechanical gages for tolerance inspections done during grinding proces
Operates CNC OD grinder
Operates CNC OD grinder within customer and company specifications
Edits offsets and/or program in order to maintain blue print specifications
Checks programs for errors by comparing program to part print and then verifying the dimensions and part features
Inspects parts
Inspects work throughout grinding process to ensure parts are made within print specifications and appropriate tolerances are held
Fills out paperwork
Clocks onto jobs daily in order to determine which step needs to be completed
Logs critical ABS dimensions into SPC system
Cleans up area, grinder, and parts
Keeps area clean and efficient by maintaining and organizing area according to 5S
Cleans parts with air gun after the proper dimensions have been met in order to remove chips and coolant from the surfaces
Performs miscellaneous duties
Performs other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience
High School diploma or equivalence
Must be able to pass drug test and background screening
Minimum 1 year CNC machining experience
Minimum 3 years grinding experience


Equipment and Applications:

CNC OD grinder, air gage, air gun, bench center, centers, depth micrometer, diamond dresser, gage block set, height gage, HSK gages, indicator, micrometer, personal computer (and SPC software), pin gage, sine bar, taper gage, and various hand tools
