Purpose:

Assists the AGM and/or General Manager in managing housekeeping operations in guest rooms, public areas, workers’ areas, and laundry, to achieve and maintain the hotel’s high standard of cleanliness.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspects the level of cleanliness in guest rooms, storage areas, laundry areas, restrooms and public areas.
  • Assists in scheduling staff according to standards and forecasted occupancy; assigns daily work tasks to employees.
  • Distributes keys and work assignments to staff
  • Completes follow-up on vacant or occupied rooms
  • Assists in the ordering and receiving of linen and cleaning supplies to maintain appropriate inventory levels necessary for efficient operation of the department; assists with monthly linen and supply inventory.
  • Ensures the completion of the Housekeeper’s Report and communicates clean and available rooms to the Guest Services Department.
  • Documents and communicates maintenance requests to the Engineering Department to ensure hotel service quality standards are met.
  • Responds quickly to guest requests in a friendly manner. Reports appropriate guest complaints or requests to appropriate department. Follows up to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Displays a professional image at all times through appearance and dress.
  • Follows company policies and procedures and is able to effectively communicate them to subordinates.
  • Conducts training classes regarding safety, security, department procedures and service guidelines.
  • Ensures hotel is in compliance with all federal, state and local laws, including OSHA, EEOC, Wage Hour and Health laws.

Qualifications:

  • Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and one year experience in housekeeping or similar industry, to include supervisory experience. Special consideration will be given to those who exhibit exemplary performance.

  • The person in this position spends a significant amount of time utilizing problem solving, counseling, reasoning, motivating and training abilities.
  • Mathematical skills and reading abilities are used when preparing reports and reviewing the budget.
  • Communication devices such as the telephone or pager are frequently used for such functions as communicating with the housekeeping department while on the floor.
  • At times, an Assistant Housekeeper will assist the Housepersons or Room Attendants by helping to clean rooms or public areas. This will involve bending, stooping and stretching.
  • Carrying and/or lifting approximately 50 pounds and pushing and/or pulling approximately 200 pounds occurs frequently.
