Spherion Staffing, a national staffing and recruiting agency with a locally owned office in South Burlington is seeking experienced, enthusiastic, organized, and detail oriented professionals for various businesses in Vermont.



We are currently hiring for a Mortgage Program Specialist for our client, a well-known mortgage financing and refinancing company in St. Albans. This position is a unique combination of customer service and administrative functions and requires an individual who showcases exceptional detail orientation as well as strong professionalism and excellent communications skills.



The schedule for this position is Monday through Thursday 11-9 with an hour lunch break and Saturday from 10-2. Position pays $15/hr and is located in St. Albans.

Job Summary

The primary functions of the Program Specialist are screening and directing incoming calls, outbound contacting of new leads and referrals, performing prequalification interviews with potential members, lead entry duties, data entry and submission of signed applications for underwriter review, follow up with applicants, and other clerical functions as deemed necessary. The position of Program Specialist requires the employee to secure an extensive knowledge of the Company and Its programs, credit requirements, and pricing standards however the role does not allow for negotiation of final loan terms, issuing decisions on applications, or final determination of loan product for consumers.



Principal Activities & Responsibilities
  • Customer Relationship Management: answer, screen and transfer inbound calls
  • Call/email leads and referrals per established procedures
  • Perform Program Availability and Prequalification Interviews
  • Complete data entry of applicant information including web applications and lead submissions
  • Execute initial credit bureau review to identify compliance red flags
  • Process/contact web applicants: evaluate factors such as credit worthiness, debt capacity, employment, income, and benefit to customer
  • Complete application Packet preparation and submission; verify information is accurate and complete
  • Prepare and mail prequalification failure adverse action letters
  • Handle all inquiries by phone, mail, email or fax are responded to in a professional and timely manner
  • Analyze applicant needs and identify appropriate programs available
  • Communicate decisions to clients positively
  • Interact with all applicants and/or vendors politely, and with dignity and respect
  • Keep updated with new policies and procedures
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships between internal and external industry counterparts, including but not limited to, customers, regional employees, referral sources, and service providers
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to any and all activities affected
  • Showcase awareness of both positive and negative market trends and alert all impacted employees


Requirements


  • Computer skills to include strong familiarity with MS Office especially in Excel, Word, and Outlook. Knowledge of Access helpful
  • Experience utilizing Windows Operating System
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • At least two years of experience in an office setting; previous sales and customer service experience preferred
  • Ability to effectively communicate credit decisions
  • Ability to use sound judgment and strong decision-making skills
  • Must have strong mathematical skills
  • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills
  • Must be self-directed and self-motivated
  • Ability to successfully multi-task
