The Sr. Pharmacy Underwriting Consultant Manager will ensure that UHC underwriting across all segments is, where appropriate, utilizing all margin retention and growth pricing strategies currently available (Traditional, Flex) as well as ensure market current pricing strategies and capabilities. The consultant will be responsible for all pricing aspects including Retail, Mail, Administrative fees if applicable and Rebate structure. The consultant will supplement and support the existing pharmacy SME's and provide a constant and focused approach and pharmacy focus. You will work closely with National Accounts, Key Accounts and Public Sector underwriting to ensure financial execution is consistent and that E&I margin growth strategies are congruent with organizational strategies.

 

Other responsibilities include:


  •  Proactively ensure UHC pharmacy underwriting practices / strategies are current and position company favorably vs. PBM and carrier competition.

  • Coordinate underwriting pricing strategies with UHC pricing, finance and sales, as well as OptumRx where appropriate.

  • Maximize competitive positioning and margin potential via Clinical, and Product (i.e. Specialty) strategies.

  • Collaborate with pharmacy pricing intelligence group to ensure underwriting principles are up to date, and enable competitive positioning as well as margin retention/growth.

  • Act as a pharmacy SME and engage in client / prospect specific renewals and RFP's.

  • Lead efforts to maintain and embellish pharmacy underwriting manual (guidance), as well as keep current underwriter training initiatives via Rx Rates and More, training conference calls, and in person educational seminars. Also participate in sales training efforts.

  • Present financial recommendations to senior management and collaborate in discussions between underwriting and sales leadership.

  • Coordinate proposal and guarantee document language with other impacted areas including Legal.

  • Track and report on GDR guarantees, pricing initiatives (Traditional) on an as needed basis.

  • Participate in oversight committee working directly with Senior Actuarial, UHCP Finance, Sales and Underwriting Leaders


 

Requirements


Requirements:


- 6+ years experience in healthcare underwriting for any variety of products: PPO, HMO, self-funded, ASO/fully-insured, group or individual


- Intermediate level of proficiency with MS Office suite (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Assets:
- Exposure to pharmacy underwriting/financial management..
- 5+ years experience with Risk Management.
- Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.



- Post Graduate Degree in Math, Finance, Business or related degree.
