551082:  Healthcare Director of Compliance - Eden Prairie MN (or Southwestern U.S.)

We are currently looking for an experienced Director of Compliance to join our dynamic Compliance team.  Things are exciting at Optum as we are experiencing unprecedented growth, and looking for someone with for our Eden Prairie MN based team (though other UHG locations in the Southwestern United States may be considered for a stellar candidate - Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Diego, Los Angeles, or Salt Lake City).  Ideal candidates will have significant hospital or provider operations experience, 5+ years of experience leading compliance programs, 5+ years of management experience, and be able to travel up to 50% of the time.

 

The Director of Compliance will report to Optum360's General Counsel and Compliance & Privacy Officer, and is responsible for assisting in the development and operation of the Optum360 Compliance program. The Optum360 Compliance program is built around the Federal Sentencing Guidelines for Organizations, the OIG Third Party Billing Company Compliance Guidance, and other relevant government guidance.  The position is responsible for developing the program; for effectively communicating the program to business leaders and employees; for monitoring management's implementation and execution of the compliance program; and reporting to senior management and the board regarding the organization's implementation and execution the program.  The position is responsible for overseeing the investigation of complaints regarding hospital service lines, including billing practices, compliance auditing and monitoring activities within each setting, soliciting legal advice where necessary, working with internal and external counsel to help respond to government investigations/inquiries or self-disclosure processes, developing and providing education programs for Optum360 as needed, facilitating communication between legal counsel and external auditors, development and implementation of remediation plans to correct material compliance problems and ensuring that compliance disciplinary actions are consistent within Optum360 policy.

Requirements

We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:

 


  • Bachelor's degree required: post-graduate degree preferred.

  • 7+ years of experience with increasing responsibility in an administrative, financial or clinical position in a health care system.

  • Minimum of 2+ years of working experience in one or more areas of healthcare compliance; 5+ years preferred.

  • 5+ years of management & direct supervisory experience.

  • Active participation in compliance related professional organization(s) is preferred.

  • Professional certification in healthcare compliance is a plus (CHC, CCEP, or similar).

  • Commitment to lead by example and to function as an expert compliance resource to the organization, helping to protect the organization and its employees.

  • Demonstrated experience in conducting investigations and identifying and resolving operational issues.

  • Knowledgeable in Medicare and Medicaid requirements for acute and ambulatory health care.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, complainants, health care providers, and attorneys.

  • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbal and in writing English, including the ability to present ideas and concepts effectively across organizational levels.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.

  • Objective, collaborative approach. Ability to function effectively in a dynamic and challenging environment and to affect change, if necessary.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze problems and issues from a variety of perspectives and to understand legal, compliance, risk, and financial impact of decisions.

  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, as may be required.

  • Adept at understanding complex concepts and situations presented by the business environment.

  • Ability to assess complex problems and recommend the appropriate compliance solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and to proactively manage implementation of broad-based as well as specific initiatives.
