POSTING JOB TITLE: Inventory Staff Accountant I, Capital / Inventory
PURPOSE/OVERALL OBJECTIVE:
The purpose of the position is to analyze, calculate and record financial data as it relates to capital projects, fixed assets, intangibles and inventory for the regions supported by the Regional Accounting Center. Perform accurate and consistent accounting in compliance with corporate policies and procedures. Provide region management with timely and accurate information to support business decisions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides accounting support for capital projects, fixed assets, intangibles and inventory; specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
o Analyzing and reconciling capital project, fixed asset, intangibles and inventory accounts and sub ledgers and resolving any discrepancies
o Preparing required journal entries for capital projects, fixed assets, intangibles and inventory related accounts (e.g. capitalized interest, capitalize
labor, adjust fixed asset reserves, write off obsolete inventory, monthly accruals, etc.)
o Performing capital projects, fixed assets, intangibles and inventory reporting
o Reviewing Purchase Authorizations (PAs) for coding and input into system
o Performing CPE reconciliations
o Processing and reviewing fixed asset retirements and transfers
o Evaluating and recording changes to fixed asset and intangible useful lives
o Coordinating cycle counts and physical inventories and evaluating results
o Assessing inventory for obsoleteness and write off or transfer as appropriate
- Utilizes computer applications to compile, retrieve and summarize accounting information for analyses and reporting purposes
- Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports for inclusion in corporate reporting packages and for outside agencies
- Performs analyses and reports for monthly depreciation expense variances to prior periods, outlook and budget
- Identifies opportunities for improvement and standardization and raises opportunities to the appropriate supervisor
- Prepare workpapers in a clear and concise manner in accordance with management and external auditor requirements
- Prepares ad hoc financial reporting requests, other analyses and special projects as requested by management
- Performs duties in compliance with GAAP, company and department policies and procedures, internal controls and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
- Provides superior internal customer service to the regions supported by the Regional Accounting Center
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/ YEARS OF MINIMUM RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor ' s Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience
- Zero to three years related experience
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills; must be able to communicate ideas and issues effectively and concisely to all levels of management, internal and external auditors and outside contacts
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills including:
o Ability to analyze transactions, determine proper accounting and understand fluctuations and their drivers
o Ability to understand our business transactions and how to account for those transactions
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret corporate procedures, technical procedures and/or governmental regulations
- Proficient in MS Office, specifically MS Excel
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision under stressful conditions and coordinate the completion of multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast paced environment
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including hours beyond the normal work week when required
- Must be able to pay close attention to detail and understand oral and written instructions
- Must display a positive attitude dedicated towards achieving results for the " team " as well as providing quality service and accuracy
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/ YEARS OF MINIMUM RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:
- Masters of Accountancy / CPA
- Capital project (project / job costing), fixed asset and / or inventory accounting experience
- PeopleSoft accounting and data extraction (query) software experience
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION/ AND OR CERTIFICATIONS:
Bachelor ' s Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience
