Aerotek is currently hiring for an on-call Patient Access Representative/Communications PBX Operator for our client in the Vallejo, CA area. Screening for this opportunity will occur in our San Ramon Office.

Job Description:

This position is a combination of Patient Access Representative (Registrar) and Communications Operator (PBX). Incumbents may be assigned to one particular function, both functions, or designated to fill in either function on an as-needed basis.

The Patient Access Registrar greets, identifies and registers the patient at the point of service, activates or initiates the medical record and account, obtains consent signatures, collects and receives patients’ payments and valuables, verifies insurance benefits and eligibility, completes payer notification, and may secure authorization for payment on assigned accounts. The Patient Access Registrar provides excellent customer service to family and visitors, directing the patients, families and visitors to the appropriate area or service department. In addition, this position acts as a key resource by providing functional guidance and direction to new employees, resolving problems, using sound judgment and initiative as work flow requires. This position is trained and capable of working in three or more different positions (functional job duties) in order to cover shifts and responsibilities as necessary. Some individuals in this position are assigned mentor roles and as mentors to new staff. This position may act as a department resource and will assist with other projects as required. This position assures that all patients are registered accurately, efficiently, and courteously. This position is required to work holidays, weekends, various shifts, and provide coverage to other positions (such as PBX/Operator) or areas as needed to meet department and patient needs.

The Communications Operator maintains the flow of communication throughout the Medical Center. The Communication Operator handles highly confidential information, pays attention to detail and follows both verbal and written instructions per request. The Communication Operator is responsible for testing and monitoring multiple emergency alarms from several sources, and initiating response procedures, answering and processing calls from the Mitel phone console. The Communication Operator maintains CODES, TRAUMA CENTER/Emergency Response Procedures.
