JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for completing a training program which involves learning the day-to-day operation of a restaurant, overall business unit management principles and specific restaurant brand techniques through a combination of study, workshops and on-the-job training. The Restaurant Manager Trainee is assigned to a Restaurant District Manager and works with an assigned Restaurant Store Manager and with field trainer or other development staff to develop a personal job training schedule based on the trainee’s education and previous work experience.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Customer Focus
  • Participates in promoting a positive work environment and maintains excellent employee, customer and community relations.
  • Learns to inspect Restaurant supplies, equipment and work areas to ensure proper standards of cleanliness, safety, maintenance and operation are being followed.
  • Learns and utilizes the processes for notifying any equipment failure, maintenance or repair need.
  • Learns processes around transfer and/or disposal of Company equipment or assets.
  • Learns Company sales policies and procedures, proper use of equipment for recording product sales, government regulations related to the sale of age-restricted products; assists in ensuring compliance with these regulations.
  • Learns to implement Restaurant programs in accordance with Company and/or brand and regulatory standards, to include the use of Company and/or brand specific online tools, charts, paperwork, etc.
  • Monitors changes in local market. Learns the process for reporting concerns and making recommendations to the Restaurant District Manager to enhance or maintain marketing and sales performance.
  • Ensures accurate cash, payroll or inventory control records are kept and variances accounted for. May complete or assist with daily paperwork required to perform the banking function and daily deposit. Learns vendor check-in procedures and accounts for merchandise received during vendor deliveries.
  • Learns to monitor records, analyze operating reports and P&L (budget, sales, margin, cash, labor, product usage and variance, food costs, supplies, inventory, etc.); assists in identifying opportunities for improvement, development of and implementation of plans to increase sales, profitability, productivity and service levels.
  • Oversees the work activities of employees as directed by the Restaurant Manager. Assists with recruitment, screening and interviewing job applicants. Helps coach and train new employees. Assists with scheduling and assigning duties of restaurant employees. Provides feedback to help employees improve performance and gives input on performance reviews.
  • Learns, follows and enforces all government requirements, health and safety codes, food brand inspection standards and the Company policies, procedures and standards that apply to the conduct of business. Seeks guidance from Restaurant Store or Restaurant District Manager and/or other appropriate functional areas about legal questions or obligations.
  • Learns Company safety and security procedures. Assists in maintaining a safe environment for employees and customers; and protects Company assets including information, cash, product, equipment and property.
  • Learns to complete all periodic operating reports and transmits/forwards to Corporate Support Center and brand partners when required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent plus 1-2 years of retail store or food service work experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and work experience.
  • Knowledge of basic business and customer service principles including planning and organizing, resource management and leadership skills.
  • Ability to listen, understand and explain information and ideas in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Ability to deal with customers, unanticipated problems or events using standard procedures.
  • Ability to recruit, select, train, motivate and lead a team of employees to maintain a profitable, efficient, customer-focused operation.
  • Physical Demands: Work requires frequent standing and walking; occasional to frequent bending, stooping or crouching; frequent lifting/carrying of up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting/carrying of up to 54 pounds; and occasional climbing and descending ladders.
  • Working Conditions: Work requires 50 hours per week and can include hours on all shifts, week-ends and holidays. Tasks are performed in all areas inside and outside of the store and can include exposure to extreme temperatures (both hot and cold), vapors/fumes, high humidity, noise and household chemicals for short periods routinely and longer periods occasionally.
  • Certificates & Licenses: Valid state motor vehicle operator’s license. ServSave and Brand Certification preferred.
