The Healthcare Economics Consultant will support UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement's Affordability agenda. This position will partner with the Associate Director and other team members to extract, analyze, and interpret healthcare data to uncover trends and assist with the achievement of the company's affordability target.  A successful consultant will work on a daily basis with others on the HCE team and will collaborate extensively with our business partners.  They must be comfortable working independently and as part of a team.  Regular communication to customers is integral as the consultant seeks to understand the essence of an opportunity and to deliver results to those outside the finance organization.


The consultant will design and develop data queries through SAS and other tools as they create models to analyze business opportunities.  They will also lead in the development of presentations to management and customers.  This position will work with very large data sets and see projects from concept to completion as they contribute to database creation, statistical modeling, and financial reports development.  This individual will interpret and analyze claim data from various sources and recommend best approaches for aggregation.


This position will be responsible to research and investigate CMS guidelines that drive initiative opportunities.  They will investigate key business problems through quantitative analyses of utilization and healthcare costs data.  The consultant leads in development and presentation of statistical findings and conclusions.  This position provides data in support of financial and utilization analyses, and identifies potential areas for medical cost improvements.

Requirements

Qualifications:


- Strong Excel skills: data analysis & report generation


- SAS/SQL Knowledge/Skills: ability to write code for data mining; sometimes without clear criteria


- 3+ years of experience with data analysis and working with large data sets


- Strong Communication skills: ability to deliver a concise written/spoken message


- Comfortable in interactions with various levels of management


- Bachelor's degree or greater


- Ability to work successfully in an ever-changing, fast paced environment


- Strong eye for data integrity


- Ability to problem solve and to be resourceful on projects


- Review the work of others and serve as a sounding board on other projects


- Experience in the Healthcare industry is highly desired
