Time Warner Cable currently seeks a Network Engineer III for our Optical Transport Department. Below please find a brief description of the essential duties and responsibilities required to function successfully in this position.

Position Summary:


The Network Engineer III Optical Transport will be responsible for designing, deploying, managing, and ensuring stability of the local/wide area network infrastructure technologies to provide high availability, fault tolerance, and scalability of the DWDM / ROADM Transport Network. Demonstrates a high level of competence in Optical Transport technologies, troubleshooting critical issues, and coordination of implementation. Represents the Engineering Department working closely with regional Architects and Engineers in designing, modeling, and implementing new technologies within the division. Performs moves, additions, and changes of equipment and systems specifically following the designated change management policies.

Essential Job Function:

- Troubleshoots and resolves critical network and system issues.

- Installation of hardware and software to meet capacity upgrades within the metro network and on the market network to meet business needs.

- Develop innovative solutions and maintain network monitoring and system performance tools, techniques, policies and procedures.

- Project management - document project requirements which could include scope, costs, schedule, testing and terms of delivery to ensure project is completed with highest level of quality on time and under budget.

- Mentors and trains other Engineering personnel in key elements of networking systems and provides technical presentations to instruct co-workers and other production services support individuals.

- Oncall rotation along with the other optical engineers in the team supporting the northeast region.

- Job consists of maintenance window work make the necessary optical changes to support the metro and regional optical rings.

- Other duties as required.

Job Requirements:


- Required - 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience supporting/maintaining Cisco and other major optical technology platforms, and fiber optics

- Must have the ability to facilitate and lead customer meetings to negotiate understanding and agreement; provide lead work direction and perform project management responsibilities, including developing logical, efficient project plans, establishing priorities, assigning and delegating tasks, providing guidance and training to team members, anticipating and avoiding problems, monitoring and managing task completion and working collaboratively with team members, other Engineering staff and customer groups to ensure project accountability

- Must have the ability to balance responsibilities for multiple projects to ensure timely results, prioritize critical tasks and meet demands in the most effective and efficient manner.

- Must have the ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve complex systems problems and demonstrate advanced knowledge of decision-making techniques.

- Must have demonstrated experience utilizing structured change and project management.

- Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective customer focused working relationships with managers, customers, vendors, consultants, employees and others encountered in the course of work

- Integrity and Trust - demonstrates basic ability to operate with a high degree of honesty and openness, such that respect and trust is earned by coworkers and customers.

Preferred Qualifications:


- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to interact with and establish rapport with all levels of management, and staff. Must be able to present information to colleagues/management in a clear and comprehensible manner.

- Strong interpersonal skills required. Must be able to project a positive company image, interact professionally with customers, vendors, and all levels of company management.

- Must be able to perform analysis, define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

- Must have proven ability to work independently with limited supervision as well as in a team environment.

- Requires strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills.

- Must possess excellent organization skills and the ability to handle multiple duties and priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Strong follow-through skills, attention to detail and ability to produce work with a high degree of accuracy required.

- Working knowledge of DWDM, SONET, ROADM, and fiber optic characteristics; experience with Cisco, Ciena/Nortel, or Infinera preferred.

- Hands-on experience of LAN, WAN, and telecommunication equipment. Optical Networking (DWDM, ROADMs)

- Understanding of all OSI layers from application to physical, knowledge of BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, PIM, MPLS, and RIP.

Education:


Bachelor ' s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS AND FREQUENCY:

May require daily travel to network equipment sites in the area. Possible overnight travel to remote locations with the Region, as needed. Possible overnight travel out of area for training. Travel 15 % outside of area. Travel within the Albany metro to all sites.
