Description

Market Development Manager – Holland, MI

The Market Development Manager (MDM) will provide strategic planning, market activation and account/market analytics for the assigned East Business Unit – Mid South Region. The position will work with the Business Unit Management Team to actively identify local opportunities to drive volume, grow margin and close distribution and availability gaps. The MDM role will collaborate with the Area Directors, Branch Managers, National Account Executives, Regional Account Directors, Regional Account Executives, and local supply chain team members to communicate, customize, and deliver on corporate brand initiatives.

This role will reside in Holland, MI, with responsibility for the entire state. This person will report to the Director of Market Development.

Accountabilities

Communication:
  • Play a leadership role in Region / Area / branch conference calls
  • Develop monthly branch marketing presentations for branch management towards informing their sales teams about marketing initiatives in the upcoming month / trimester
  • Communicate all aspects of incentives to include: Elements, performance updates, post analysis and financial payout and accruals
  • Lead kickoff meetings for new item launches (DPSG and Allied brands)
  • Minimum one day per month in the trade with branch manager, district manager or account manager inspecting and coaching him/her on marketing programming and distribution/availability
  • Develop and present marketing presentations for annual AOP meetings

Market Activation:
  • Customize national brand promotional plans to the local market (calendars, events, incentives)
  • Create local promotions to drive sales, margin, trial and awareness.
  • Develop all of the necessary tools to make national or local programs successful, including but not limited to: POS, Coupons, Sell Sheets, Ad creative, On packs
  • Administer various promotional orders (OBMs, national merchandising orders) to place orders by the deadline
  • Drive promotional plans/programs for partner brands (Allied)
  • Work with RMM on pricing plans for independent channels and utilize RMM tools to perform post promotion analysis
  • Develop regional merchandising books on an annual basis
  • Develop activation plans with sponsorship partners as needed

Analysis:
  • Become the Champion of distribution and availability in the MI Region. Review current process, develop recommendations to improve it. Utilize Margin Minder to determine progress.
  • Utilize Nielsen data to review performance and identify opportunities
  • Develop a system to post analyze marketing programs and implement key learnings
  • Become a Margin Minder expert. Utilize the tool to evaluate distribution, sales velocity, repurchase rates, pricing and merchandising opportunities for EBU brands across the business unit

Strategy:
  • Provide persuasive selling facts to support key account selling (insights and appropriate brand and market information)
  • Accompany RAEs to account calls to add marketing insights and opportunities 1-2X year
  • Seek opportunities across retail channels for the EBU portfolio
  • Develop strategic partnerships to enhance retailer activation, driving display, sales and margin


Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and 5 years sales or marketing experience, OR High School Diploma or GED and 7 years sales or marketing experience


  • 7 years experience using MS Office products, with advanced Excel skills (pivot tables)
  • 5 years experience using syndicated marketing data sources, as well as proprietary sales data sources like Margin Minder
