About this job

Our client, located in the La Jolla area, is seeking a qualified Animal Technician to join their team. This position is a full-time, benefited (medical, dental, vision, 401K) opportunity with generous pay depending on experience. Looking to interview ASAP. Must be able to interview within 72 hours.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Extensive experience in caring for rodents in a research institute setting, including changing cages, feeding and provide water for the animals on a continuing basis
- Handling and observing the animals
- Recognizing, promptly reporting and documenting any changes of an animals’ adverse behavior and/or clinical signs
- Demonstrate knowledge of and have the ability to generate SOP
- Interact with and assist the principal scientist on routine and novel research projects
- Proficient at administering test articles by various routes of administration
- Experienced in collecting physiological samples, harvesting tissue/organs and performing basic surgery on various rodent species
- Maintain clean work area
- Keep accurate records

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of 2 years of animal welfare and husbandry experience
- Familiar with federal, state, and/or industry standard operating procedures and regulations regarding animal welfare in research
- AALAT and LAT certification preferred but NOT required
- Excellent attention to detail
- Expertise in Microsoft Office suite
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Ability to work independently
