The Material Handler 1 (MH1) works in a specific area to ensure stores product is processed accurately, timely and efficiently to meet level of service goals.  The Material Handler 1 (MH1) reports to the Supervisor of the designated area.  Roles and responsibilities to include, but not limited to:

  • Complete the daily operations with a specific area to include, but not limited to:
    • Training.
    • Pricing of product.
    • Splitting of product.
    • Various administrative duties to support team members meeting production goals.
    • Follows Standard Operating Procedures consistently.
  • Meets daily production goals.
    • Communicates with Supervisor / Department Manager on performance to plan throughout the shift.
    • Makes adjustments based on performance to expectation.
  • Execute plans to support company’s business planned growth.
  • Meets or exceeds performance to include, but not limited to:
    • Safety / Quality / Job Knowledge / Production / Attendance
  • Facilitates the flow of merchandise from vendor to store delivery up to 7 days per week dependent on volume and business need.
  • Maintains and strengthens internal/external customer – supplier relationships.
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships at all levels:
    • Peers within operations.
    • Human Resources
    • Supervisors
    • Department Managers
    • Assets Protection
  • Communicates with Supervisor / Department Manager on any business concerns and/or employee relations issues.
  • Responsible for completion of projects / tasks as assigned by Leadership.
  • Builds and maintains a work environment that is positive and is supported by open feedback and two-way communication at all levels.

Physical Requirements (Minor, Moderate, Major, or Critical as required by position):

  • Will need to lift boxes of product and go up 3 steps (8 inch) to stack into trailer. Requires vertically transferring boxes of product weighing up to (40 lbs) from (33”) to (72”), up to (30/hr).
  • Will need to lift and carry empty, broken down boxes and wooden pallets to various points within the distribution center. Requires vertically/horizontally transferring empty broken down boxes and wooden pallets weighing up to (25 lbs.) from (12”) to (30”), up to (10/hr), a distance up to (100 ft) without mechanical assistance.
  • Will need to lift and carry boxes of full product from the top level of boxes on the pallet to the table and waist to overhead. Requires vertically/horizontally transferring boxes full of product weighing up to (30 lbs.) from (72”) to (33”), up to (60/hr), a distance up to (5 ft) without mechanical assistance.
  • Will need to lift and carry product stored in totes from table/conveyor belt to waist level for transport to different areas. Requires vertically/horizontally transferring product stored in totes weighing up to (30 lbs.) from (44”) to (40”), up to (10/hr), a distance up to (50 ft) without mechanical assistance.
  • Will need to lift and carry boxes of product from adjustable conveyor belt to trailer. Requires vertically/horizontally transferring boxes of product weighing up to (60 lbs.) from (35”) to (50”), up to (10/hr), a distance up to (15 ft) without mechanical assistance.
  • Will need to be able to push and pull various objects and devices which are not limited to but can include: boxes on pallets along slide track, pushing boxed product on conveyor belt, and push/pull pallet jack. Must horizontally transfer various objects and devices requiring a force up to (30 lbs), up to (30/hr), a distance of (10 ft).
  • Must be able to have functional hand strength requiring bilateral coupling forces up to (20 lbs), up to (50/hr), to manage various products, tools, and controls within the distribution center.
  • Must be able to climb up and down staircase (9” step) to reach top of conveyor belts/work stations. Requires climbing stairs up to 17 steps/hr in (1 shift).
  • Must be able to climb up and down ladder (13” rung height) to reach top of conveyor belts/work stations. Requires climbing ladder up to 15 rungs/hr in (1 shift).
  • Must be able to reach both arms overhead. Requires repetitive assumption of posture to access a point (72”) from the floor up to (20/hr).
  • Must be able to bend trunk and touch toes. Requires repetitive assumption of posture to access a point (5 inches) from the floor up to (20/hr).
  • Must be able to squat and touch floor. Requires repetitive assumption of posture to access a point (1 inches) from the floor up to (20/hr).
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Requires repetitive assumption of posture up to (1 shift) continuously, for a total of up to (1 shift) per (8 hr. shift).
  • Must tolerate working environment with inside ambient temperature, including extreme hot/cold conditions.
  • Requires (Near/Far/Depth/Color) vision must be able to recognize and identify various products.
  • Must be able to walk various distances within the distribution center. Requires walking up to (5000.0 ft), in (1 shift).
