Job Description:

The Database Architect for RMS is challenged with taking business objectives and translating them to a Database/ Systems architecture that scales globally. Qualified persons in this role must understand the RMS business while still being able to delve into specific and complicated technological issues. This position requires one to recognize software patterns and the solutions associated with those patterns.

The Database Architect must be able to see whether an application has been built with correct emphases on capitalizing on the potential cost savings to RMS, while still ensuring software quality and reusability.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes all relevant information and incorporates perceived long-term implications when devising solutions.
  • Makes decisions that support and promote RMS’ business strategies.
  • Appears fluent and confident when presenting plans and procedures to business and technological people alike.
  • Consults with directors and executives to provide technical direction on systems analysis, design, development, and testing.
  • Maintains database architecture policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Reviews upcoming functionality from a database architecture perspective – recommending different approaches where applicable to meet with industry best practices.
  • Leads efforts to ensure database consistency, maintenance of documentation such as a database dictionary, and overall standards for systems design.
  • Assist with operational responsibilities as-needed such as database maintenance and related procedures.
  • Creates timelines that align departmental initiatives while keeping the big picture in mind.
  • Understands and integrates industry needs, software development life-cycles, and technological solutions.
  • Serves as an intermediary between the business world and the technological field; understands the intricacies of both sides.
  • Demonstrates the ability to quickly incorporate relevant information into effective suggestions for senior IT and business managers.
  • Makes recommendations for revising, repairing, or expanding existing database/information architecture to increase operating efficiency.
  • Continually researches new approaches and technologies and reviews patterns in order to make the conversion of requirements to architecture easy and reliable.
  • Acts a trustworthy consultant to management in giving recommendations and directions.
  • Remains reliable in fulfilling obligations and contractual agreements.
  • Envisions long-term business needs, makes the necessary changes and inspires others to embrace changes within the business.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education:

B.S. Degree in computer science, information systems, or related area

Experience:

8+ years experience in professional software development, system integration, database administration, and/or data modeling – with an emphasis on database architecture; 2+ years experience in architecture at product or portfolio level

Competencies/Skills:

Strong communication and planning/organizing skills required. Ability to think analytically solves problems, make decisions, and continuously improve and innovate. Candidates must also have functional and technical expertise, and have consistency and quality in their work. Knowledge of software products and operating systems essential (e.g., Windows Server, Solaris, etc.).

Accomplishments
(Degrees, Certifications, Languages):

Active involvement in related enterprise architecture organization a plus; M.S., Ph.D., or MBA a plus.
