Direct Support Professional Vocational - Full-time / Part-time

REM Iowa Developmental Services is a partner of The MENTOR Network, a national network of local human services providers offering quality, community-based services to adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, brain and spinal cord injuries and other catastrophic injuries and illnesses, and to youth with emotional, behavioral and medically complex challenges as well as their families. REM Iowa is seeking Direct Support Professionals/Caregivers to work Monday-Friday 8:30am to 3:30pm to provide assistance to individuals with intellectual disabilities, brain injury and emotional, behavioral or medical complexities in a community-based setting. DSPs provide assistance with building employment skills such as punctuality, personal hygiene, workplace behavior, time management, self-control, stress management and using public transportation. In addition, DSPs support therapeutic and behavioral plans in partnership with clinical staff to enhance the quality of life for those we support.

Every person needs the support of others, but we look for very special people to support individuals with intellectual disabilities, brain injury and emotional, behavioral or medical complexities. As a Direct Support Professional (DSP) with REM Iowa you’ll be one of those special people.

DSPs are the link to the community for those they serve. For some, they may be the eyes of those unable to see, or the voice for those who can’t speak. For others, they are friend, cheerleader and subtle support on the path to one’s true potential.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED
• Must be 18 years of age
• Valid driver’s license in good standing
• Car registration and vehicle insurance if providing transportation for individuals receiving services
• Six months of experience in human services preferred
• Successful clearance of local and/or state background checks
