Job Summary

The Category Analyst supports the development of customer and client sales growth strategies by providing insightful analytics and shopper insights that support a mutually beneficial growth plan. The Category Analyst interfaces with customers, various members of the category management and customer development teams.

An ideal candidate’s profile for a Category Analyst includes:

BS / BA required.

1-3 Years category management/syndicated data experience required.

Experience presenting to key accounts preferred.

Ability to pull Nielsen data and develop value added analysis.

Ability to develop and present category strategy growth opportunities and recommendations to key accounts.

The Category Analyst works to develop category review, prepare new item presentations, provides assortment and promotion analysis, and handle ad hoc requests.

Excellent Excel and Power Point skills.

Strong communication skills and time management skills.

Strong presentation skills.

Ability to work across multiple categories and support multiple Regional Sales Managers.

The Category Analyst has the ability to work independently and in teams.

Ability to travel overnight for customer appointments and client meetings.

Responsibilities

The Category Analyst: assists clients, customers, and Business Development Managers by analyzing data and presenting it in a format, which can be used to make effective business decisions.

Data Collection:

Source data from syndicated, customer-specific and/or market resources. Meet specific needs of requesting party by determining appropriate data selection and custom assortment as directed by supervisor

Data Analysis/Interpretation/Application

Quantify, analyze, and interpret data Evaluate the reliability of source information by weighting raw data and organizing results for analysis Create excel templates utilizing raw data

Project Management:

Maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, resolving problems and make adjustments as needed to meet deadlines

Presentation Development:

Organize information into presentation format by studying, analyzing, interpreting and classifying data

Presentation Delivery:

Assist the management team as needed by participating in presentations to answer any questions regarding the data and data analysis information

Job Requirements:

Education College degree or equivalent job-related experience

Experience 1-3 years of work experience in applicable field (i.e. sales and marketing agency, Customer, and/or Client

Skills & Competencies:

Working knowledge of syndicated data and applications.

Demonstrated analytical skills and techniques Basic understanding of category management.

Ability to understand and interpret data and draw conclusions in order to solve business issues and make

recommendations.

Understand legal regulations within category management and work within compliance guidelines.

Strong organization skills and attention to details.

Demonstrates commitment to meeting or exceeding customer expectations, effectively solicits and responds to the needs of the customer both external and internal.

Works cooperatively with others toward common group objectives, demonstrates respect for the ideas and contributions of other team members, cultivates positive relationships with other associates, and provides assistance and support to others.

Tools/Software

Advanced PC skills with proficiency in spreadsheets, word processing and presentation software
