Job Summary
The Business Analyst analyzes data and assists with the development of new reports. He/She provides data to senior and mid-level sales management to assist with evaluating business plan results.
This position is responsible for retrieving and interpreting sales performance data. This includes providing advice on data manipulation techniques, and presenting reports. He/She works with internal peers and subject matter experts to satisfy end-user requests. The Data Analyst compares, contrasts, and analyzes critical performance data elements.
Other Duties
- Conducts data source searches to ensure pertinent data capture.
- Organizes data into various formats to ensure reports are user-friendly.
- Identifies data collection methods to assist sales force and interpret fluctuations.
- Provides UPS data support to meet requestor’s data needs.
- Recommends methods for improving summarization techniques.
- Dissects performance information and verifies data accuracy.
Preferred Competencies
- Report Generation: Generates reports in appropriate format using basic software; reviews reports to ensure accuracy and completeness; identifies some problems with report generation (e.g., missing variables, incorrect data, etc.)
- Detail Orientation: Distinguishes between “big picture” concepts and comments and specialized, smaller specific facts associated with work; notes the specifics of events and experiences; explains, in general, how details impact end goals or outcomes; ensures that work is completed accurately and with the appropriate level of detail.
- Solicits and Gathers Information: Demonstrates a working knowledge of techniques for soliciting and gathering information; identifies appropriate sources of information.
- Applies Information Analysis & Solution Generation Knowledge: Identifies key information sources, assesses information quality, and understands and communicates limitations; relates and compares information from different sources; manages large amounts of data and appropriately applies data reduction and exploratory analysis techniques; makes logical assumptions; challenges own findings and documents process and outcomes; audits own analyses and determines their validity.
Minimum Qualifiers
- Experience supervising others – Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree – Marketing, Mathematics, or Computer Science - Preferred
- Experience using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint - Preferred
