The psychiatric / mental health nurse (psych RN) assists in the care of individuals suffering from mental illnesses, working with patients and their families and communities to assess mental health needs and provide personalized care as appropriate. Additional responsibilities include:

This is a Geri-psych and IDD (intellectally and developmentally delayed) Psych unit.
Housing is extremely limited in the area. The RN could be in a hotel for the entire contract with mini fridge and microwave only. May be housed further out of town with a one hour commute. Push subsidy if possible- see facility notes for more details.

- Assessing levels of dysfunction
- Helping patients regain or acknowledge effective coping mechanisms
- Preventing further disability
- Providing information on preventative measures
- Performing counseling
- Teaching patients how to be self-sufficient and less reliant on others Psychiatric nurses may work with adults or children in both the facility and home health settings
