Responsibilities

 

Overview

The Priority Services System Administrator is responsible for the planning, design, implementation, and support of mission critical enterprise systems specific to Verizon network architecture. The Priority Services System Administrator serves as a technical expert in the area of system administration for complex operating systems; recommends the design and configuration of operating system and applications; analyzes feasibility of system requirements; develops system specifications; assist project teams with technical issues in the Initiation and Planning phases of our standard Project Management Methodology. The Priority Services System Administrator should have an advanced knowledge and diverse skills in technologies across multiple vendors to include design and architecture of various platforms.

The Priority Services System Administrator will:

  • Design, develop, test and implement mainframe and server application tools, analysis tools, and user interface applications.
  • Work closely with vendor and internal technical teams to deliver technical solutions to the customer
  • Lead technical engagements promoting the use of specific technologies to create new opportunities and business relationships.
  • Provides technical assistance to various stakeholder clients using problem determination skills.
  • Mediate opposing viewpoints and negotiate equitable solutions to ensure successful and stable outcomes.
  • Maintain a baseline of industry knowledge to advice on technical trends and techniques and apply them to the development of solution designs.
  • Apply practical skills and experience across many application and infrastructure products, technologies, and services.

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Architect, develop, implement and support diverse portfolio of distributed database systems.
  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of Oracle database and applications.
  • Manage Oracle systems and provide timely resolutions to the end-user community.
  • Build object-oriented test automation framework to be used for regression test suite on various web applications.
  • Test product functionality, analyze results, verify fixes, and provide feedback in the product design and specification process.
  • Perform installation and cloning of applications, troubleshooting, backups and refreshes.
  • Perform database integration, apply data fixes, configure debug logs, gathering statistics, execute remote diagnostic utilities, and collect logs and traces.
  • Understand database architecture concepts, physical database definition and logical database design.
  • Uses technical and negotiation skills in collaboration with other organizations to prioritize and diagnose problems to resolution.
  • Participate in technical requirements and design reviews.
  • Recommends and implements new or improvements to existing technical support tools, procedures, and processes.
  • Independently handle all critical client reported technical issues.
  • Analyze project proposals to define goals, identify scope, background and need, and ascertain cost of equipment and services.
  • Researches and recommends technology to improve the current systems.

Qualifications

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient in the use of analytical techniques to describe the problem space, to size the solution and to validate that the proposed architecture addresses the business requirements.
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of database architectures and design disciplines, operational support familiarity, previous and current extensive hands-on implementation and thorough configuration knowledge and capabilities.
  • Strong database administration experience and skills.
  • Strong programming/scripting experience in Perl, Shell scripting, Java, SQL, C/C++.
  • Good understanding of computing and telecommunication networks.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Computer Science (or related discipline) with 10 or more years of related experience in the technology industry. Master's degree in Engineering or Computer Science (or related discipline) preferred.
