Description
**Must be available nights and weekends**
Purpose: To prepare attractive, healthy dishes for Food Service Department.
Responsibilities:
I. FOOD PREPARATION
A. Prepares dishes following recipe specifications as assigned by Food Service Manager (FSM).
B. Maintain accurate up-to-date records of ingredients transferred to and from stores.
C. Maintain proper storage and labeling procedures.
D. Follow food safety and sanitation regulations maintaining correct temperatures cooking, cooling and
storing according to CURFFL.
E. Prepare trays and dishes for catering orders, as assigned.
F. Prepare baked goods as assigned.
II. DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE
A. Pull short-date items and properly record and following cull guidelines.
B. Maintain prep and storage areas in sanitary and orderly condition, following established procedures.
C. Follow safety, storage and labeling procedures.
D. Alert Kitchen Manager to low inventories or out-of-stocks of basic ingredients and supplies.
E. Use department equipment safely. Advise FSM of equipment repair needs.
F. Fill out inter-department and inter-store transfer paperwork completely and accurately.
G. Carry out established opening and closing procedures.
H. Carry out established cleaning check lists.
III. Perform other tasks assigned by FSM.
A. Order supplies and ingredients as assigned by FSM.
B. Attend department meetings.
C. Be cross-trained in Food Service Departments in order to support as needed.
D. Assist in training of new members of kitchen staff.
E. Place orders as assigned by FSM.
F. Participate in inventory counts as assigned by FSM.
QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS
- Experience working in food service, deli or restaurant.
- Experience serving the public.
- Ability to work as a positive member of a team.
- Ability to handle multiple demands and follow through on commitments.
- Familiarity with natural foods.
- Willingness to work with meat.
- Ability to lift 50 lb.
- Able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Manual dexterity with hazardous equipment.
- Knowledge of weights, measurements and conversions.
- Basic math skills required.
- Good communication skills.
- Knife skills.
- Fluent in speaking, reading and comprehending English.
- Time management coupled with cooking experience to ensure efficiently
- Well organized and pays attention to details.
- Knowledge of safe food handling and preparation techniques.
- Ability to handle kitchen chemicals.
