Building Information Modeling Manager

Location:Boston, MA

The Building Information Modeling (BIM) Manager is responsible for managing BIM related technologies, processes, support and training.  Primary duties include: analyzing systems and processes; developing standards and procedures; promoting BIM services to external parties; and maintaining efficiency of design and production staff. This position reports directly to the COO.

Responsibilities:

To elevate and maintain a high level of technology standards, processes and efficiency through the use of BIM. This will be accomplished by, but not limited to, the responsibilities outlined below:

Software

  • Manages software products; including but not limited to incorporating new version releases and customization of the product
  • Evaluates new BIM related software and technologies
  • Manages the implementation of supporting software for BIM
  • Stays informed on best practices for use of Revit and BIM.
  • Stays informed on other BIM related software and how they work with our current applications
  • Installation and support of related BIM software

Standards

  • Responsible for BIM standards development, implementation, and enforcement
  • Creation and maintenance of Template files to assure standards
  • Automate routines in BIM to support standards and productivity
  • Provides quality control for completeness and adherence to company standards
  • Develops an efficient workflow process that incorporates current and future BIM tools
  • Trains and oversees the day-to-day activities of the staff to ensure BIM standards are maintained in the creation of Revit models

Management

  • Develops annual goals and detailed plans for goal accomplishments.
  • Creates written technology evaluations and budgets for future technology adoption that aligns with the corporate goals
  • Reports on the company's current and projected state in regards to BIM implementation
  • Creates Upgrade and Deployment strategies for the BIM implementation effort
  • Future planning for potential uses of BIM
  • Manage printers/plotters; including related supplies

Support

  • Provides application support as it relates to BIM production
  • Provides support to committees and task forces as it relates to BIM
  • Liaison with vendors, developer support staff, IT department and other support channels.

Training

  • Develops and implements an on-going training program
  • Provides technical orientation to New Hires regarding BIM tools
  • Maintains a high level of competency of software through continued use and training
  • Attends conferences, seminars, and workshops for BIM; bringing back knowledge and disseminating the information to appropriate teams

Project Interface

  • Assists project teams in project startup
  • Creates Revit families and components in response to project needs
  • Coordinates model sharing with external Project Teams
  • Linking BIM to the project Construction Administration Phase for submittals, construction models, shop drawings and schedules
  • Liaison to BIM-related Contractors and Product Vendors to develop accurate pricing information

Marketing of BIM services

  • Web, literature, interviews, presenting at relevant client focused venues
  • Future BIM Industry Initiatives and Developments
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations for future marketing efforts regarding BIM technology

Involvement with Industry Organizations

  • BSA committees and forums
  • Autodesk University
  • AUGI
  • Local User Groups

Requirements:

  • Proficient in Revit and SketchUp, at a minimum, and have knowledge and familiarity of 3rd-party BIM software
  • Have a working knowledge of developing renderings
  • Have knowledge of both Interior Design and Architecture
  • Needs to be a self-starter and have an outgoing proactive personality
  • Must be able to articulate ideas well in both verbal and written communication.
  • Has ease and full ability to present and lead meetings with clients, contractors, consultants and internal team members and executives.
  • 8+ years of experience.
