Senior Writer


 


Position Description:


Bring your outstanding writing expertise to the table at OptumRx, including your ability to write pieces from scratch, modify copy to fit another audience or purpose, and edit copy developed by clients or other teams.



Form a collaborative partnership with the team members you'll work closely with on specific assignments, offering creative ideas and constructive criticism to help shape our work.



Work closely with your Account Manager and Creative Director on assignments, juggling day-to-day deadlines, as well as developing your professional skills.


 


Primary Responsibilities:



Write, edit, and proofread a wide variety of ad copy, headlines, sales collateral, informational pieces, white papers, web and more, delivering clear, easy-to-understand messaging.


Learn and master an understanding of the various products and services offered by OptumRx including what they mean to the consultants who promote them, the clients who buy them and the consumers who use them to help ensure that your writing resonates with our targeted audiences and helps to mitigate legal risk.


Own the messaging; maintain a defined voice for the company and work to develop comprehensive messaging platforms for each department and line of business we support.


Identify all customer touch points and work for consistency across the board.


Understand the various audiences for the lines of business we support. Knowledge of demographics, types of customers, and customer preferences will be key to producing compelling and effective copy.


Work independently to be a critical thinker and drive for clarity to propose solutions when possible. Seek out subject matter experts, form relationships and interview expert colleagues to extract the information needed to develop informative content.


Seek and use resources within and outside the company for your continuing professional development.


Become a proficient user of our GRID system, a web-based project management tool that helps to guide workflows and connects all of our projects and team members together.


Keep up to speed on new approaches to advertising, health issues and overall trends in health care.


Use a variety of writing, style, and branding guidelines effectively, including AP, UnitedHealthcare and customer-specific ones, moving effortlessly between brands as you move from one project to the next.


Implement various reading levels and check the levels with each draft. When creating lower reading-level materials, strive to convey meaningful information and use a style that respects the reader.


Distill complex clinical and health care ideas to make them approachable to a variety of specific audiences.


Bring Health Literacy and Readability principles to assignments and have the ability to apply these principles when editing copy submitted for review by other departments and authors.


Follow company policies and procedures, in particular in relation to legalities and compliance.


Work quickly, accurately, and fearlessly. The quality of your work is vital to the success of the team.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:


Bachelor's Degree.


Editorial Writing experience within a matrix organization


5+ years of professional Writing and editing experience (Must demonstrate Writing excellence).


Experience in writing for B2C and B2B audiences, in both print and web.


Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.


Must have experience concepting, and presenting your copy and ideas to our creative team.

 


 


Preferred Qualifications:


Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or related fields.


Media, Advertising or Marketing Agency/Internal Agency experience is a plus.


2+ years of experience within the Healthcare Industry.


Knowledge in Health Literacy is a plus.


Copywriting experience


Concepting experience with Dreamweaver, InDesign, Quark, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat a plus.
