Job Description: The Research Associate, Assay Development will help bring the company's innovative clinical microbiology technology to market. This technology extracts live bacterial and fungal pathogens directly from clinical specimens, counts the number of live organisms, identifies, and then characterizes resistance phenotypes in less than 8 hours. This revolutionary approach eliminates the need for enrichment and isolation significantly changing the paradigm that has driven the market for the last century. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with experience in the following areas: microbiology, biochemistry, and/or molecular biology. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day execution of experiments supporting assay development.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties:
- Execute experiments on prototype instruments
- Run conventional culture-based assays
- Prepare buffers, growth media, other reagents, and antibiotic stocks as required for experimentation
Work Environment: 30-40 in company so far, working with engineers, Scientists, management, must work well in a team environment, share the same goal, no ego - as this is a start up company and must understand the things that go with a start up. Very fast paced production like environment, they are running 28 runs/day (8 samples per run), will be moving up to 36 runs soon.
Qualifications: Formal Training/Education:
- BS in a relevant field; on-the-job practical experience will be considered in addition to degree achievement
- 3-5 years of clinical experience preferred in a research and/or development environment
Performance Expectations: Will be working with 6 others on the team and company is growing, this is an extremely important role as the company is in the R&D phase and needs this role in order to move forward. This is an ever changing environment, candidate must be okay with that and excited about working in that environment/opportunity
