Job Title: Transportation Supervisor

Job Description:

This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining a smooth operation of the Transportation Department and helps provide 24-hr, 7 day a week coverage. Provides general supervision of all transportation drivers and administrative staff. Primary responsibility is to make sure that all Employees are on the job at the start of the shift or at the scheduled dispatch time. This position involves the planning, directing, and coordination of all delivery and backhaul activities, and must keep product moving smoothly, accurately, and efficiently. Must drive key performance indicators for cost savings, and maintain efficient utilization of manpower through proper routing and training in order to provide the highest levels of customer service.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned.)

A teammate in this position must have the ability to:

• Direct and motivate Teammates.

• Be responsible for compliance and knowledge with Federal Department of Transportation regulations and other safety standards. Maintain fleet in a safe manner in accordance with company and governmental standards.

• Maintain effective and timely scheduling of Transportation Teammates, current week and following week schedules should always be posted with a working copy available by request for the next week.

• Must assign accountability within staff to track and trend key performance indicators to ensure the center is meeting and exceeding customer expectations.

• Provide departmental coverage and leadership and maintain level of managerial professionalism at all times.

• Assist Warehouse Operations Managers with resolution of issues between warehousing and distribution/transportation.

• Provide training as needed to maintain an efficient and knowledgeable work force.

• Strong knowledge of Teammate Handbook. Enforce general company policies and issuance of coaching/disciplinary documentation to Teammates, final written warning and termination will be presented for approval to the Senior Transportation Manger and/or the Human Resources Manager.

• Be responsible for productivity data including but not limited to unload rates, routes, stops, and pieces; timely scheduling of all routes for “on-time” departures.

• Have knowledge of backhaul and transfer procedures.

• Assist the Senior Transportation Manager with research and development of new techniques and procedures to increase the efficiency of any transportation operation.

• Provide additional assistance with projects and other activities as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

A Candidate in this position must:

• Bachelor’s degree is required.

• 3 – 5 years of experience in all facets of outbound transportation, preferably in the food service industry. Should also have accounting, planning, analytical and/or reporting experience, in positions with increasing responsibility.

• Must have strong leadership skills and the ability to manage a large numbers of drivers with experience in hiring, training, motivating Teammates, and resolving employee relations issues.

• Preferred experience on AS 400 Mainframe, Excel, Microsoft Word, and Access programs; PeopleNet, TRUCKS or similar programs.

• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals, and inter-company memos/outside correspondence, read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures.

• Detailed understanding of financial statements and resulting cost implications. Possess ability to identify financial issues and provide cost effective solutions to such issues.

• Communication expert with the ability to effectively communicate and present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, vendors, and employees. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

• Strong analytical and communication skills with proven ability to work within the framework of the Team. TEAM concept and TEAMWORK are essential functions performed daily.

• Understanding of dispatch issues and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• The environment encompasses all areas of a Distribution Center.

• This position may require work in hot and cold temperature extremes and working in close proximity to other teammates.
