Field Service Technician

Reports to: Field Service Technician

Pay Structure: Hourly/Non-Exempt

Job Description

This is a position that reflects an individual who has attained the competency to work independently in the field, installing and servicing Company programs. This position is a promotion from Field Service Technician Trainee – and would be realized after an individual has completed their basic training, and has passed the probationary period as defined in their employment letter.

This role requires a hard-working, self -motivated and organized individual who will learn and be responsible for installation and service of the company’s equipment and materials on customer sites. This requires a responsible person who can manage a schedule, perform according to expectations and interact with ranch and irrigation personnel and keep meticulous records of all data, performance figures, etc. There is upside potential in this role by way of pay raises, increased responsibilities and promotions based on one’s ability to progress in all areas.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Install and service chemical programs at customer sites. He/she is capable of managing his/her own territory of customer sites including but not limited to: determining service schedule, implementing feed rates as required by management, determining performance of the program at each site with regard to its compliance to a 100% target, maintaining and servicing DPG equipment at each site, replacing equipment as required, and installing equipment and programs on new sites with no assistance.

    • Maintain a professional and courtesy demeanor while in the performance of all job responsibilities.

    • Complete site analysis report on every customer site visit for every program being monitored. Submit these reports on a daily basis (within 24 hours of service) to the office for processing. All reports shall be entirely completed, in legible handwriting and with accurate calculations.

    • Maintain organized customer service schedule by completing company-provided forms (Priority reports) at each customer site visit. Submit these reports by fax on a weekly basis according to required schedule.

    • Maintain accurate activity and expense reports on a daily basis, and submit weekly to the office for processing. Provide management with receipts on all expenditures while on company business.

    • Submit invoice requests to the office by fax within 24 hours of completion of service work.

    • Maintain excellent driving record.

    • Maintain function and cleanliness of equipment used to feed programs at each customer site.

    • Maintain and service company-provided truck including cleanliness, and maintenance intervals (oil change, tire rotations, etc.). Bring larger maintenance issues to the attention of management immediately so management can approve and schedule repair, and provide technician with alternate work vehicle if required. Only company-approved vendors/repair shops can be used for any service work.

    • Maintain safety in all phases of job performance: safe driving; and use of company-required safety equipment in servicing chemical programs at customer sites. Know and follow all safety instructions. Maintain copies of product MSDS and safety procedures in cab of truck at all times. Secure all equipment in the bed of the company-provided truck at all times, according to state laws.

    • Maintain cleanliness of equipment used in the field (transfer pumps), bubble tanks/trailers, analytical supplies, etc., and maintain an adequate supply of equipment/supplies for field work. Submit a weekly equipment list to the office for completion.

    • Develop basic understanding of all programs and chemistries to ensure excellent follow up and communication with customers, management, and lab staff.

    • Monitor performance of chemical programs in the field to ensure commitment to performance and cost. Maintain chemical feed rates at 100% of target. Monitor field conditions and make and implement changes in a timely manner in chemical programs, as required by changing conditions. Increases in dosages can only be made with the approval of management and the customer. Assure dosages are adequate for performance commitment to customers. Communicate inadequate performance immediately tomanagement.

    • Maintain orderly files and customer records in the performance of all field responsibilities.

    • Maintain excellent communications with the customer, including phone and face-to-face contact with all levels of customer’s field and management personnel.

    • May participate in annual customer business reviews. May assist in the preparation of reports in the required timeframe for each customer.

    • Return, in a timely manner, all broken equipment to the shop for repair following company-provided forms for documentation.

    • Maintain excellent communications – verbal and written – with other field techs, office staff, lab staff, and management to facilitate excellent customer program performance.

    • Evaluate new customer sites using company-provided format for evaluation, and submit paperwork and water samples to the lab in a timely manner.
