POSITION PURPOSE -
The Home Depot is seeking a commercial transactions attorney with a proven record of client service and a practical, problem-solving approach to providing legal services in a corporate environment. The successful candidate must have exceptional communication skills and the ability to identify, assess and guide the Procurement and Financial Services departmentswith regard to legal risks associated with their respective business operations. He or she must be a hands-on, commercial contracts lawyer that will service all contracting needs for these departments, including, but not limited to identifying and analyzing legal issues, drafting and negotiating documents, presenting appropriate recommendations, and assuring legal compliance. The successful candidate will also be responsible for updating the company’s standard form agreements as needed.  The successful candidate will also be knowledgeable regarding laws related to consumer financial products such as credit, debit and prepaid devices, including, but not limited to,  TILA, Regulation Z, GLBA, and anti-money laundering compliance This position will be located in Atlanta, GA. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Reviewing, drafting, revising and negotiating agreements with vendors, distributors and other third parties, including master agreements,  nondisclosure agreements, payment network agreements, gift card agreements and other commercial agreements;
  • Researching and responding to general legal inquiries from in-house clients that may relate to contract disputes, regulatory issues and new business initiatives; and
  • Managing the contracts database; and
  • Maintaining, updating and revising contract templates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must pass the Drug Test.
  • Must pass the Background Check.
  • Must pass pre-employment tests if applicable.

EDUCATION REQUIRED - The completion of a Jurist Doctorate or equivalent and required certifications for practicing law.

YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE - 6

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS -

  • A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • A license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -

  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience with drafting and negotiating Financial Services and Procurement contracts  in a corporate and law firm setting
  • Retail experience preferred

Proven drafting and negotiation skills. Ability to make significant contributions to communication for complex matters at a department level. Ability to prepare and assist in preparation of reports and presentations to officers and executives as appropriate. The ability to work independently on numerous activities and prioritize them properly while meeting deadlines. The ability to confront conflict and difficult issues in a professional, assertive and proactive manner. The ability to effectively manage the performance and careers of direct reports. The self-starting ability to aggressively tackle new responsibilities and initiative without receiving specific training or completely clear direction. The ability to develop, organize, implement and manage standard procedures on a department wide level and train outside counsel and paralegal in the procedures. High degree of oral and written communication and analytical skills.
