About this job

The Beer/Wine Department Specialist will assist the category manager with purchasing/inventory management, costs/retails, vendor management, process development, supply chain efficiencies, deadlines and all other vital business pertaining to assigned categories. This position will help manage department programs to ensure company standards are being followed and financial goals for sales and profit are being met. The Beer/Wine Department Specialist will work closely with the Category Manager, Merchandisers and store level to develop, implement and monitor new and existing programs, create new training processes, policies and procedures and increase overall efficiencies. In addition, the Beer/Wine Department Specialist will supports the Director and Category Managers with all essential financial analysis, Pricing Strategy initiatives and Promotional Programs, including the Weekly, Monthly Ad formations and Seasonal platforms. The Supply Chain Coordinator will report to this position.

Essential Functions

  • Manage assigned categories as specified by the Category Manager
  • Work with vendors to coordinate large purchases for promotions company-wide or region specific
  • Monitor departmental schematics to ensure compliance with Sprouts’ standards. Work with category manager in designing and implementing department schematics
  • Create weekly sales ad projections by region and store to assist in sale ad pre-books
  • Manage weekly pre-book process to ensure accurate sale orders are obtained
  • Monitor inventory levels in all regions and react to any shortages or overages in a timely manner
  • Coordinate, write and distribute weekly ad directive and promotional pricing
  • Manage the department event and promotional calendar with category manager and merchandisers
  • Maintain a positive and open line of communication with the stores, merchandisers and buying office
  • Evaluate and improve department sales, margins and contribution
  • Monitor competitors’ pricing and notify Director and/or Category Manager of any significant opportunities
  • Monitor departmental programs & procedures in all regions and communicate issues and recommendations for changes to regional and corporate management
  • Work closely with employees, merchandisers, category and regional managers to develop and implement new programs and promotions
  • Manage and evaluate training programs that are implemented by merchandisers
  • Perform essential functions for category manager during the category manager’s absence

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • BA/BS degree in business, purchasing or 6-8 years of related experience; or an acceptable combination of education and experience
  • Reliable and dependable with a sense of urgency towards attaining goals
  • Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook experience
  • Detailed oriented
  • Ability to successfully manage concurrent projects and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to provide clear direction
  • Must be able to prioritize and multi-task
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees; outgoing, friendly and positive attitude

  • Most work is performed in a normal office environment
  • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, telephone, calculator, copy and fax machine requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand and eye movement
